Project Katana (R60 All4 S)

I was told in the "What did you do today to your Mini?" Thread to create a build page, I thought it was a decent idea for anyone who bothered themselves to check out what Im doing.
Originally I wanted a Golf R, I just couldnt find one under $25K that I liked and I couldnt swing that. I went through other cars that share my favorite characteristics: Subaru WRX STI, MK6 VW Jetta Sportwagen, Evo's, Saab 93X, Volvo V70R, E91 Xdrive, Audi A4/S4, or a EG6 Civics with AWD swap....All of these were very limited in my area, beaten up/rusted out, couldnt find in manual trans, or too expensive. The Countryman S/JCW All4 was the best option under $15K with every feature I wanted, being that I owned a R56 already, it was going to be a great pairing. So I started my search for a Countryman All4 with a manual trans, 3 rear seats, no sunroofs and less than 110K miles.

I found this 2016 Countryman All4 S in March 2025 for $4600 with 107K miles. It had a Salvage title from a front end collision with a deer. The entire front end was replaced before I purchased it and didnt have any noticeable issues aside from parasitic drain. I drove the car for a few month and from the beginning I had my vision for what I wanted to do with it...which was originally a replica of the WRC Countryman. After seeing how unobtainable the wing, engine/layout, ect was I scrapped that thought. So things changed up, I didnt want to go ***** out with the look like I did with my R56 and wanted more of a OEM+ look but with enough power to scare myself here and there.

This is how it originally looked, I did not take many photos...

First I started with aesthetics, found a JCW Grill, side markers/trim. Painted the silver cladding with bedliner to match the rest of the arches/skirting, blacked out all the chrome, and added a diffuser. I painted the Calipers Red, and added some Vland Lights front and rear and smoke corner lights. I picked up new wheels for it, then some Rev9 coilovers. I picked up a 2.5" Sport cat and then made a full exhaust for it.

I love car audio so this is still in a ever evolving project within this project! I installed Skar TX3.5" front speakers, SPX 6.5" speakers in the rear. Kicker LOC wired into with the under seat speakers for best audio resolution for the amp. The amplifier in the pictures is a CAB2000.1D, which is currently being swapped out with a SLAPZ Audio 5000.1D, paired to a Resilient Sounds Platinum V2 15" Sub. Its loaded in a 3.8 cubic ft enclosure tuned to 31hz with a 1.5" baffle made of birch/sande pine. All the power/grounds are Oversized 2/0 GP Audio Wire with copper terminations. Also in the pictures is a 40aH Lishen Lifepo4 cell which is currently being swapped out for a 80aH version, which will be paired with a 500F Maxwell Ultracap bank - there will be zero voltage drop afterwards!

After getting the Look and sound where I wanted with the car, now comes increasing the output of the car itself. I installed a ECS Luft-Technik Intake System, JB+ Tuner, SprintBooster, Cosmo Racing Charge Pipes, M7 Intake Hose with Sensor Deletes, CTS Ignition Coils, GFB Diverter+, and a Mamba 4660 Turbo and went Stage 2 with @Lou@Prototype-R

Then I have installed a Megan Strut Brace, an Aluminum Valve Cover, and a few other Dress Up Bits:

On the voyage for more power I installed a full Water Meth kit with Direct Port Injection with a 5th Nozzle for 2 Stage cooling, I will be snagging a Snow Performance VC-50 Controller shortly:

After installing some Slotted and Drilled Rotors, Cravenspeed Shifter/Retainer Ring/Bushings/****, Ultragauge v1.4, the Italian Center Armrest, and some Carbon bits for the interior - this is what inside looks like until I get some Braum seats for it:

Some pictures of how it sits now:

Over the next couple weeks I will be installing a Clutchmaster FX350/Lightweight Flywheel, Installing a 3" Sport Cat, Building a Full 3" Exhuast, Replacing the head with a Big Valve Ported Head, Cryo Timing Chain, and a few other goodies. This is all in preparation for a RPMPower R300, Mahle 10:1 Pistons/Supertech Rods, King XP Full Bearing Kit, ARP Stud kit, ect.
I want the car to be a great family car that can also scare the **** out of you if you want it to. Hope you guys tune in.
