And Another New Cabrio Lesson or 2

Learned this morning that if you leave the top down and the car out side, it makes a lot of squeaky noises when you raise the top first thing in the morning. Whew!

Yesterday I was keying the top down and had the bright idea to put something in the boot at the same time. Bright idea there. Stopped the top dead in half travel. No big deal, shut the trunk back and continue with the top down. That's what you think. The red light is on on the top up button and nothing will move the top. OK, shut the trunk, no way. With the top part way down the trunk will not shut and latch. What the hell. Push the trunk tight to the closed position with one hand, hold the key around the side of the top with the other hand and hold the button. (Don't forget how cool you look doing that to any passerbys!) Top goes down. After the top is down let go of the trunk, oops boot, and re shut it. Now it latches closed. Never going to do that dumb trick again. Hope all of this is not what made the top squeak this morning going back up.

Ahhhhh, the squeeky top. Pretty much a special feature on all cabrios.....I still don't have any idea why leaving it open overnight makes it screech while putting it up and down during a normal day doesn't. One of those MINI quirks.

Probably a MINI's way of yelling at you for abusing it by not putting the top up when you should have.

Not quite, top down and next to an open garage door. Allmost like outside.

Yep. If I leave the top down in the garage overnight (closed garage) I get the same squeek/squeel the next time I put it up.

I'm gonna shoot a little spray lube into the hinges sometime when it's 1/2 up and see if that cures it...

WHEW open door happens to me alot (teenage son ), but I stopped leaving top down at night when a couple of birdies decided garage was a cozy spot to spend the night.

Mine is pretty much always making that noise of screeching chipmunks when closing the top. I figure it must be a protest against top up motoring.... I am going in to the dealer on Monday for my first oil change and will ask them to make it stop. I'll let you know what they do.

Yeah - I had a couple nesting in there for a while and had to put the top up. Those birdies are in a better place now with the little birdy angels.

The squeaky noise is your Mini objecting to the top being put up. It prefers to roll with the top down.

Yep, I'll just have to keep it down -- that's why I hope not to hear the complaining squeek again until Nov. or Dec.
