Cup holder accessory?

At the rally in Scottsdale last Saturday I noticed a lot of cars with a cupholder attached to the passenger side high up. A bunch of new cars had it too. Where do you get that, and how is it installed? Looks like it'll hold a 24 oz can of Budweiser just fine!

They were standard on many R50/R53 models. The R56 doesn't have the same center stack so there MINI can't use the same mounting hardware. I think.

Hi Newt,
You saw one from the dealer. It is for the 06 and eariler model. Since those models dont have a "real" cupholder (cant hold a big gulp). It looks like you have an 07. Didn't they give you a better cup holder? I dont think the 06 cupholder will work with the 07 model, but i could be wrong.

Come to our next club event. A few 07 in the group already.

The 07 MINI has 2 more "normal" cupholders in front of the center stack, which appear made to hold a standard 12 oz can. I am not sure, but I believe those 12 oz to larger cup holder adapters would fit in it, but they may block buttons on the center stack.

I"ve been thinking that someone should machine one out of stainless with a billet just a bit smaller than the size of a 12-oz can, and an arm that'd extend out over the passenger seat area. (I drive alone mostly...)

Yeah, they were R53s. The thing was screwed into the center stack on the right side and hung out a bit. I'll see when I can make an event, thanks for the info!

yes they hold 12 oz cans but taking them in and out is a different story.

You got that right. The rubber fins around the sides make getting the can out a bit of a challenge. I'm thinking about trimming those off myself.

You don't really need to trim those fins. They are put in with some bad glue. Mine just naturally seperated when taking out larger beverages. I left one fin in and put back on the plastic trim - most sizes fit really well now.

So I noticed. I nearly crushed a can trying to get one out.

From what I've been able to find out, so far there isn't an aftermarket cup holder like this available yet for the 07s. But its been a while since anyone has posted about it so I'll refresh everyone's minds. Has anyone come across cup holder similar to this that will mount to the center column in a 07?

I sent a message to Prestige Mini http://www.prestigemini.com/ and they indicated that the cup holder is part # 51 16 0 418 010 but it isn't available from England yet. When I did a Google search on it I got a result from motoringfile.com that indicates an availability of May 2007. So, hopefully we'll have an option available soon. No price has been listed.
