SpiderX's Header from CMC (Juston Poole)

This is the header on my car...... SpiderX made about 215 with best tune before and 225 after..... so far... We hope we can wring it out to 235 WHP while maintaining great tq and driveability...... note there are real collectors and the primaries are stepped...... ceramic coated with a titanium finish......

Juston has experience building headers for Porsche, BMW as well as Honda and others......

This header was conceived assembled specifically for my 62 car ..... works quite well and I am VERY happy with it.

Pretty. Couple of questions.

1. What does stepped mean?
2. What is the purpose of #1 & #4 going into one collector (I hope I got that right) and #2 & #3 into the other vs. #1 & #2 and #3 & #4 mating up?

1. Stepped means that the pipes start with one diameter, then change to another diameter.

2. Merging the exhaust pipes in this fashion makes for better scavenging of the exhaust gasses, since the 2 cylinders joined are 180* apart in firing order.

New GF or recycle? How's her performance? LOL

Has Justin determined a $ range and availabilty yet or is it too early in the process? Looks like a well made header for sure.

She missed me.... what can I say..... (you know how I felt)

If you look at the M7-62 thread there are pictures of the unit he built for "hornguys" he charged Jim $950 I think....... Juston is taking orders and is ready to go..... please understand these are made by him one at a time in his shop in Sandy Springs GA (Atlanta) and I think he charges more if you watch and double if you help.

A 4X1 would be less

TLMCS05,

Mine included installation and the removable cat design, plus a custom heat shield.

And the ceramic coating.

You can see/hear it next Friday when we meet.

And see how it works with the Exedy stage 3 clutch/flywheel...

Cool! Not a bad price range for a custom header. I'm thinking of selling off some long unused toys and going ahead this summer and taking blu to the next level. Thanks for the info and product updates.

And Bob, share the secret to finding cute blind women? Glad things have worked out like they were supposed to!

The reason for the steps in the primaries is to maintain velocity within the first few thousand rpm. The step up can have several functions, depending on design, but the most basic is: The increase in diameter allows greater flow at rpm just beyond those (rpm) which the shorter section was tuned for. The overall goal being to eek every ounce of torque out of the engine within various operating ranges. The steps do this effetively and make the car more drivable/fun to drive. As described earlier, the significance of pairing cylinders which are 180 degrees appart in firing sequence is to 'scavenge'. As a pulse of gas (from cyl 1) passes the "Y" in the pairing a negative pressure wave travels up the other leg (cyl 4 in this case). The lengths of the primaries are designed so that at the moment the negative wave is hitting the exhaust port the intake valve is open, and cylinder is filling. The effect: The intake charge, in addition to being pushed into the cyl (by the S/C) is also 'sucked' in by the negative pressure wave... a very short duration low-pressure zone, which allows maximal cylinder filling, and in doing so limits the amount of exhaust gases which might reverse-flow back into the cyl. (when the intake valve closes).
