Is anyone calling the IJ, to see if they'd send a reporter / photographer out?

Would make for a nice photo on the local section of the paper....

(yes, a question from the guy on the other continent)

Abuzavi,

A good thought abuzavi. I'll get in touch with the IJ (Independent Journal of Marin) and see if they are interested in doing any coverage. It would be a great opportunity for some photos.

I'll keep you posted.

It appears that you are familiar with the IJ and the area. Here is a link so you can catchup on the latest: http://www.marinij.com/

...bump...
just a gentle reminder to RSVP on the REME MegaBBS if you plan on attending the run. We have 21 signed up as of today, but I am expecting around 30 cars. It should be a beautiful weekend and another exciting REME run through mountains, valleys, and ocean side... and a very cool field trip too.

Here is the weather forecast for this Sunday May 6th 2007

SUNNY with Clear Skies with High Temperatures for some of the cities we will drive through or close:

Sausalito 70F
Stinson Beach 73F
Point Reyes 70F
Nicasio 72F
Novato 72F

I'd call this weather "delicious". As it stands right now all roads are open and clear. Sounds like a great day for a MINI/Mini Run.

Bring your camera and a picnic lunch.

Point Reyes 83F
Nicasio 84F

Anybody that is driving from the Santa Rosa/Petaluma & north area, we will be meeting on the Windsor square @ 7:45AM on Sunday if you care to join us & caravan down to San Rafael.

Heres a bit of information on what we will be seeing:
Visiting SF-88 Nike Missile Site
SF-88 is open for visiting from Wednesday to Friday of every week as well as the first Sunday of every month. Visiting hours are from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. The site is closed during wet weather for your safety. During the week, our site manager John leads periodic tours of the RADAR vans, the fueling area and the missile magazine. During the first Sunday of every month we have an open house with volunteers and Nike Veterans interpreting each of the areas on the base. We also have protection dog demonstrations during some open houses.
On the first Sunday of every month we hold an open house, where docents—some of them Nike veterans—tell stories about real life experience at Nike missile sites.

Well we had what proved to be one of the most beautiful weather days that I can remember. REME began to gather at our meeting place in Terra Linda, Marin County. It was about 9AM as the first few MINI/Minis arrived. By 9:30 we were all there and ready to go. 26 MINI/Minis were eager to get started.

We pulled out of the Macy's parking lot in the Northgate Shopping Mall and headed across town using all the backroads. We headed west on Lucas Valley Road, past George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch on the way to Nicasio. There we took Nacasio Valley Rd. to San Geronimo and then headed east on Sir Francis Drake Blvd, over White's Hill and down into Fairfax. From downtown Fairfax, we took Bolinas Road out of town and up past the Meadow Club and Alpine Lake on our way to the visitors center atop Mount Tamalpias. What spectacular views from there. No fog and you could see for miles. As we drove into the Mt. Tam parking lot, we noticed that another car club had the same idea. This was BAMA (Bay Area Miatas). This was a great stop for photos and we had a chance to exchange stories with the Miata group.

From the top of Mt. Tam we headed down E. Ridgecrest to Mill Valley and onto the Panoramic Highway to US 101. Then is was up the Marin Headlands and out to the Point Bonita Lighthouse and the Historic SF-88 Nike Missile Site. Here we spent about 2 1/2 hours enjoying a picnic lunch and tours of the lighthouse and missile complex, including rides down inside the missile storage bunkers. The historians were there to give us all the first hand information about the missiles, the site, the history of the cold war and alot more. These guys were great. Many of us brought blankets and laid them out on the grassy bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It was sunny, clear, a slight breeze, and in the mid 70'sF. Perfect weather for a picnic lunch.

After lunch we headed back through the one-way tunnel and returned to US 101 North. We headed out Shoreline Highway and went through Stinson Beach and Olema. At Pt. Reyes Station we headed eastward to Novato on the Point Reyes-Petaluma Rd.

We arrived at Sam's Roadhouse for dinner about 5:30PM. A fun place, good food and pleasant casual atmosphere. The owners had set up a room in the back to accommodate our large group and we have a "private" outside deck area to enjoy while our food was being prepared. After dinner they wanted a photo of all the MINI/Minis and our group so they could hang a picture on their wall.

All in all it was a wonderful day. Thanks to everyone that came and those that made it all happen.

Cheers until next time,
