I thought of another tire question

I am looking to upgrade to the crown spokes but it seems these rims come in 17 inch. What advantage, If any do the larger tires have. I thought I have read that the ride is more harsh, no?. Will the 16 inch be a better choice and can you get the crown spoke rims on the 16 inch. I don't see this option in the configurator. Thanks

There has been some debate on this. I'm not sure what the definitive answer is. Supposedly, the wider tire on a 17" wheel gives you a wider patch of rubber on the road, but not more area -- the 16" wheel's tire patch being longer. There is controversy over whether one handles better than the other.

I chose the Sports Package, so I'm getting 17" Crown Spokes. Not sure whether that is good or not.

The diameter of the wheel/tire combination is the same for 16" & 17" wheels. That means with 17" wheels the amount of tire between wheel and road is reduced. The less tire between wheel and road the harder the ride will be. I have 17s and the feeling of the road is more noticable than with the 16s. I like it that way. I bought this car primarily for sport where the driver experiences an enhanced feeling of the car's relationship to the road.

Also, I really like the crown spoke and S-Lite wheels. They only come in the 17" size though. They give the car an even sportier look yet in my opinion.

I think Ken's got it when he says "They give the car an even sportier look." So for most people it's cosmetic.

mostly cosmetic, but for me I plan to go with big brakes when something is released so I'll need the extra clearance.

Are you aware that the brakes on the R56 MCS are the JCW brakes from the R53? At least that is what my MA said.

I have a question about the crown spokes.

The configurator says on one panel the sports package crown spokes are performance, but not run-flat. Another one says it's run-flat, but all-season. My MA says it's run-flat performance (which is what I want).

Anyone know where reality lies?

I saw the same thing and wondered as well but all MCS tires are run flats. So once again the configurator is there just to confuse us.

Yup....but I've owned Stoptechs in the past....and once you've experienced them on the track....you can't have anything less.

braking power is as fun as accelerating power.
