Moonroof drain disconnected...need help.

Can anyone help me? Need to know if a sunroof drain tube install/reconnect is a difficult job. Dealer wants $1500.00 to repair (includes parts and new carpet), $1100.00 w/out new carpet. This seems a bit high to reconnect a drain tube.

Thanks in advance.

For 1500, you can bet I'd be pulling out the Haynes/Chiltons and doing it myself!

My guess is the cost also includes inner a-pillars, i guess your not suppose to use them after they have been removed once..... I think that the headliner has to be pulled down in the front, far enough to get your hands up there.

I didn't see any mention of the A-pillars in the Sunroof section of the Bentley MINI manual. However, it also didn't have any pics or diagrams showing how the drain hose is connnected. Drain hose assembly is shown as only 2 short pieces near the sunroof frame. You could probabaly see it with the glass retracted and figure out a way to fish the 2 pieces for re-attachment?

The drain tubes are in the A pillars, one on each side, and in the rear, one on each side of the boot. I know this from experience. Are you still under warranty? If so, you should be covered. To reconnect the tubes, you need to remove the headliner, which I don't know how to. You also need to check them once in a while and make sure they are clear. Good luck.

Called the dealer back and asked for more details. He stated the bulk of the cost was an electrical panel/box (of some sort), but not the wiring harness itself. Without the drain tube connected the water leaked onto this item and he planned to replace it. I told him to clean and dry it as best possible and just reconnect the drain tube. New price is $175...big difference. It the electric system acts up or if the carpet molds/smells, I'll have them changed. He didn't say anything about A-Pillars. And I have no idea how it became disconnected. Warranty expired 10K ago. Thanks for the replies!!!

The box is the BCU, Body Control Unit. It is located on the passenger side outside kick panel and controls such things as:
  • Windows
  • Sunroof
  • Hazards
  • Locks
  • Lights
  • Pretty much everything that is electrical that is inside
You better check EVERYTHING when you get it back. If you look at the pics on the thread I linked, you will notice the windows have plastic on them. That is becuase I couldn't get the windows back up.

You can bet the bulk of the cost is 120 dollars an hour for labor...

Mine got disconnected/cracked in January 04 on our 03MCS. Rain and a quick freeze popped them. It was covered under warranty, but at the time no else reported the problem. I would check recall bulletins, perhaps they released one that was not publicized?

If you are fixing it youself, beware the air curtains behind the A pillar! Fun!

Good luck.

regards,
Red

my wife's brand new '06 just went to the dealer for this today.

reconnecting the tube on the driver's side plus drying the carpet and replacing the driver's side sill strip - covered under warranty, would have been $190.
