Went to Buy My MINI Today But...
the audio package won't be ready for build until July. The dealer would install both the HD and Sirius radios BUT at a cost of a few hundred dollars above the $1,500 factory price....no thanks. So now I have to wait. Man this hurts!
Thanks
Thanks for the support. Patience was never one of my strong suits but I guess if I want Sirius built in, then I've got no choice. However, if there is one more delay on the Sirius package, then I'll just go ahead and order and do an XM or Sirius aftermarket unit.
So close yet so far away!

The sirus package just seems so iffy lately. Hope it goes thru sooner than the last projected announcement.
We are going to opt or an XM Sportscaster thru the Aux plug.
Fingers crossed for you.

i contacted a dealer in IL who says he has Sirius kits for the 07s in stock now... but my local MA says it won't be in for months. There seems to be a lot of confusion on this stuff. MiniUSA says they are available now, but it seems like no one else knows that I know I've read elsewhere on here of people being quoted crazy expensive prices for the install as well.
I'd have preferred the audio package... pity Mini didnt have their act together in time to get it installed in mine.

If so, you are a better Man than I
There is a tug of war within me that goes kind of like this: be patient Phil, it will be worth the wait when your baby arrives decked out exactly as you want.... don't be absurd Phil order the car now, save $900 and forget the factory Sirius and HD. Get the HiFi audio for $550 and and hook up an XM Roady through the Aux and be done with it..... yeah but Phil, do you really want an extra appendage that clashes with the perfect decor of your new baby...be patient and wait.....etc, etc.
What irks me is that the dealers can indeed install Sirius and the HD radio now. But because it is a dealer install they charge a bunch extra. Actually, I don't care all that much about the HD radio. It's just just that with the factory package, the HD radio ends up being 'free'.

I know this doesn't go over well on an "enthusiast board", but in the end it's just a car. I've had aftermarket Sirius units in my cars for years and have been quite pleased. The aftermarkets are 1) upgradeable (considering the coming merger, this is important), and 2) they tend to have more features and easier tuning modes than the in-car ones. The one downside is that you have to fiddle with the brightness control manually, and you have to do a little work to find an installation you like. I put mine on my windshield or the vent, and found that those are good locations. The one on the windshield is probably best because you keep your eye on the road.
Came across this regarding Mini/Sirius a couple of days ago:

WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J. and NEW YORK, March 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MINI US and SIRIUS Satellite Radio (NASDAQ:SIRI) today announced that SIRIUS is availabl as a factory installed option with a lifetime subscription on the all-new 2007 MIN Cooper and 2007 MINI Cooper S hardtops produced beginning this June. The lifetim subscription is transferable with the car from one owner to the next
The factory-installed SIRIUS radio with a lifetime subscription will be available for an MSRP of $950. MINI USA will also offer SIRIUS, with a lifetime subscription, as part of its upgraded Audio Pack that also includes MINI's Hi-Fi sound system, for an MSRP of just $1,400.
The $950 is an excellent deal for a lifetime subscription if SIRIUS and XM don't go bankrupt.

IMO $950 for essentially a (maybe)$200 radio receiver and a lifefime subscription is a ripoff. At $15/month you're paying for 4 years of radio at retail and in advance. And if you think they'll honor that deal for a "lifetime" I've got some nice oceanfront property for sale in southern Arizona.
The Thing of it Is
While the article indicates June as the kickoff for the Mini/Sirius collaboration, my MA will not act on anything until Mini itself announces the official kickoff. That may be June or July.
The thing about the Mini/Sirius lifetime membership that sucks (other than the unknown future of satellite radio), even though I'll probably be dumb enough to buy it, is that the membership is tied permanently to the car. If you purchase a Sirius lifetime membership privately, you can transfer that membership to any Sirius receiver three different times at a cost of $75 per transfer. Still not great, but definitely better than the Mini deal.
