R56 What did you buy
What did you buy
I can't decide what to buy for many reasons. I want to poll MC VS MCS 07. Put what you bought and the single most attribute in determing your decision in a sentence or less. If this has been done before, sorry. Thanks
I ordered a 2007 MCS.
I don't commute (other than on the internet). The MC has about the same acceleration as my current car (17 year old Integra). I wanted to have fun. The mileage difference between the MC and MCS isn't huge.

I got an 07 MCS /sparkling silver/black roof/redwood red interior/sport and premium package. The reason why I got this is because it's the 1st and only unit that my parallel importer is bringing in with more options
FOOT IN IT!!
TOO MUCH IS BARELY ENOUGH. Go with the MCS, keep it simple and drive it like you're gonna die tomorrow.
I got an MCS. I bought Zippeee! as a "sports car with a back seat," and the power is just part of it!
P.S. I don't commute, either, and mine has never been more than 100 miles away from home. I've got 2600 miles on her in 5 weeks.

Mine was more a choice not to buy the MCS, rather than ti buy the MC. I plan on keeping the car 10 years. I'll put about 175,000 miles on it. With the MCS I would have probably had to replace the turbo about 3 times and the engine once due to wear.
The cost of replacing those items pushed the MCS out of the running. I figure the MC will simply be cheaper to operate over the time and miles I will have the car. At my age, cost of ownership is important.

Bought the MCS. After driving both, the additional power was just too tempting. We live on the side of a mountain and we got tired of our old Jetta losing speed as we went up and down. (And these are just east coast mountains.)
For me the MPG was the most important factor, i went with the MC. 32/40 is pretty tempting. In addition, I read reviews last year of the MC and most reviewers thought the increase in power and low end torque over the tritec engine was welcome. The MC I drove at the dealer last week, was not slow.
All black MCS, with all the performance and comfort options. I wanted a car that appears modest, practical and smart, but isn't a compromise with regard to comfort, and is a fun driving experience.
MC is cool in its own maybe more classic way, but not as much fun to fly around in.

MC for the value. All I need is a point A to point B car, so the MC is already a splurge to enjoy the drive. These boards are largely populated by enthusiasts who want more from their car. More power to them (pun painfully inteded), but you need to decide if the price jump is worth it to you, or if you'd rather spend it on add-ons.
I wonder sometimes if those who ask this question (and don't get me wrong it is a very good one) should just get an MCS. Why? Because there always seems to be a hint that the MC might not be quite up to the task...and that's fine if your expectation is to be shoved back in your seat when you hit the throttle, visualize your daily commute as an amusement park ride, or have connections w/ local law enforcement (or something
). Folks who buy Coopers (and keep them) tend to have definite, sound reasons for their choice, and the "more" offered by an MCS does not necessarily mean "more" to them. Best MINI fuel economy (at least here in the U.S.), appearance, overall balance (between power and other factors), more driver interaction in application of available power...these are reasons Cooper owners go for a Cooper. Many of us never look back...the car and our expectations are perfectly aligned. If you don't exactly feel this way, that's okay...if you're on the fence, just get an MCS and have fun!! Those who love Coopers have all their fun Cooper-style and sacrifice absolutely nothing in their motoring experience. If you feel that you may be sacrificing...get an MCS.

gokartride--you said it well! I made the "mistake" of driving an MCS first, then checking out my decision by driving a MC. Even drove an MCa, even though I hate automatics. No comparison, IMO.
I'm very happy with my MCS 6-speed!

Cooper--for many of the same reasons rooanden lists. I'm not going to race. This is my everyday, go to work vehicle, in a flat state with straight roads, lots of traffic, and men in brown khaki (FHP). I can get in enough trouble with a Cooper, thank you. A MCS was never even part of the equation--something my MA didn't understand either.
