Yes, I counted. It chimes exactly 90 times before finally shutting-up if you drive off without your seatbelt fastened. Is there a way to have the dealer program updated so that it gives-up at 15 or even 30 ringy-dings? I don't drive without the belt all the time, but it's real annoying when I do.
Also, what about a breathlyzer ignition interlock that will only allow the engine to be started after the driver has had a few drinks? ---just kidding on this one....

all i have 2 say is WOW

but it annoys me 2 when the chimes go off
This is the best advice you will receive on this subject: Wear your seatbelt. Period. End of thread.
(Another thing that bothers me: what were you doing while counting the chimes? Hopefully not driving....

Hi I'm new to the forum, and I hate to make this my first post, but hopefully this will save your life one day. I was driving my Mazda RX-8 in new york city yesterday (which I was planning on selling this week so I could order my new 2007 Mini), and proceeded through a green light. I was t-boned by a guy who went through the red light. Me and my friend were both wearing our seatbelts and walked away from a 40 MPH crash. Please, wear your seatbelt, there is absoultely no exuse not to. My father works in the ER and he always uses this as an example: After a car accident there are always two groups of people in the hospital. One group is complaining about a broken rid, a bruised arm, burns from the air bag, etc. This is the group the wore their seat belts. Generally the other group of people are crying planning the funerals for their loved ones. Those are the ones who did not wear their seatbelts.
That always scared the **** out of me, and I believe, consequently I walked away from the accident yesterday with a brused hand. Thats it. Hate for this to be my first post, but I can't read something this incredibly stupid and not give my two cents.
On a much different note, I can't wait for my MCS. I'm ordering Lightening Blue with the body color top, sport package, cold weather package, sport suspention, limited slip,10 speaker audio and the two-tone blue and black seats with the Blue color line and satin silver interior finish. Let me know what you guys think!

Welcome to NAM, rotate! I agree that wearing a seatbelt is an absolute.
I will not start my vehicles until everyone in them has buckled up. There are just too many stories and stats about folks being ejected and dying in car wrecks who would have survived had they used their seatbelts. Plus, it is the law all across the nation. "Click it or ticket."

Or am I the only one who has noticed this pecular thing about the seat belts? (aside from the 90 chimes)

where your seat belt! Takes 2 seconds, saves life, saves money from tickets. And you dont want to be sending bad messages to new drivers like me, who are still on there permit!

What I have interpreted from your post is: While driving aggressively on the wrong side of a twisty road with blind curves the seatbelt is preventing you from driving safely.
Perhaps the seatbelt is the least of your worries. I agree with MINIclo: keep that kind of driving on a track with the proper equipment.

Yes! I don't understand why some people wear the seat belt sometimes, or use their turn signals sometimes. It seems it would have been a whole lot easier to put the damn thing on than count the chimes! BTW, in case I haven't mentioned it, I can't stand when people don't use their turn signals. Are they too weak to flip the damn leaver or is the process too complicated to figure out????
I wear my seatbelt and Im all for safety but its pretty annoying when the seatbelt alarm goes off when my laptop bag and purse are sitting there
I know I have a dinosaur for a laptop but it doesnt weight that much! I feel funny having to buckle it in

Well, I suppose I should be more specific aside from implying that if my Mini dies I wanna die with it. But seriously, --and maybe a few others have noticed this as well-- if you are driving hard, real hard, and winding the gears as you salomon through a curvy twisty road with constant down shifts to negotiate curves while at the same time utilizing both lanes of the road to increase turning radius, you will notice, upon down-shifting, that even a brief deceleration (even without touching the brake pedal) will cause the seatbelt mechanism to detent locking your back tightly against the seat back. This makes it impossible to twist your entire torso to check the blind spot on the passenger side before switching lanes. Somehow the seatbelt restraint should not engage just from agressive driving, it should require a couple Gs of deceleration before you are literally imobolized in your car seat.

I suggest we not give this MORON any more air time on this thread and let it die and move off of page one, never to be read again. When he does have an accident, lets only hope its with a tree or ditch and not another human being.
