Bryson City

How bad is the drive from Bryson City to Fontana? It doesn't seem that bad, but real world vs Maps can be quite different. It seems that we are running out of options in the immediate Fontana area, but Bryson City seems to have some nice options at good prices.

If you look on my lodging page, I have noted the drive times to Fontana to several lodgings in Bryson. I personally drove it in Oct. and would not hesitate staying there if thats what it takes to be there!! Here is the LINK to my lodging page.

We stayed at a cool bed and breakfast last year in Bryson City. Not a bad drive at all!

I've booked two 3-bedroom, 2-bath cabins at Nantahala Village. Went up a month or so ago and checked the place out...very nice...and the price was very reasonable...actually less than Fontana's cabins I rented the past two years. Paid $1215.52 for Wednesday thru Sunday...divided by 3 that's just over $100 a day...I paid $150 for a piece of crap last year at Fontana. Large living room with fireplace, kitchen, screened front porch and large party deck out back.

If any cabins are left, I strongly recommend NV and there is a great restaurant and swimming pool at the Lodge house.

It is 40.5 miles to Deals Gap (intersection of 28 & 129) from Bryson City. It is a nice drive and a good warm up run before entering the dragon. I liked the Bryson City / Nantahala area so much I bought a house there. Yes, the food at NV is very good and there are some good places to eat in Byson City. You will see me there!

I am actually staying in the watershed cabins. Still going to run about 100 a piece per day ad they seem very very nice.

There are quite a few 1 bedroom thru 4 bedroom cabins left.

We just purchased three cabins in Bryson City to add to our "collection". Snooter has them on his lodging page or you can see them here. www.FoxCreekCabins.com
We'd love to have some fellow MINI owners stay there for the Dragon if they can't get closer.

My wife and I have stayed at one of Sir Tyne rentals and I can comfortably say that it's one of the nicest cabins we have ever stayed at

My wife and I are staying at Lakeview Inn which is located near the intersection of hwy 28 and hwy 19/74. The rate are good and it is a looks to be very nice place based on my research.

We would like to see lots of Minis there.

The Charleston Inn should be a good pick. Bryson City is a nice small town with all the ammenites. We have 3 cabins there and have spent a good bit of time in town. There are 3 grocery stores, a bunch of gas stations, banks and both nice sit down resturants and more than enough fast food joints. It's a more upscale town than Robbinsville, closer to the Great Smoky Mt Nat Park but further from the Dragon. Check out the Swain County Chamber website http://www.greatsmokies.com/ for more details on the area.

A little closer in Stecoah, NC, close to Robbinsville is the KickstandLodge campground. They have RV space & cabins to rent. Nice clean facilities. They would like to see a lot of mini's at their place. You can check them out at www.kickstandlodge.com. Tell Mo or Fred Vic sent you via Motd forum. We will be staying their with our RV & Mini Cabrio chili red! www.ragsandmore.com to see pictures of our RV & Mini!
