Actually there are very nice cars in Lebanon. You see lots of late model BMW's, MB's, MINIs, you name it.
Terrible situation over in the middleast. Unfortunately, as usual, innocent people are paying for the broken dishes.

and, per my insurance policy, having your car destoryed by missles is NOT covered. it's oddly #1 on the list.

Some more spotting .. following the mini at the evacuation dock from last time, here is another pic , this time in BBC's 2006 photos of the year. They actually have 5 people in there ..
The situation it's in is quite depressing - but the political commentary is misplaced here so just some wishes of peace and love for '07 to everyone .. and the pic of a mini to start the year with.

That's crazy. Just the thought of being able to plan a life over there, and get an education and a career, and buy a Mini Cooper and drive it past a bombed building one day is crazy. Drive past and not be one of the ones caught inside, but maybe next time you will, you know? Crazy.

This photo was taken last summer. Here is some info from the press release:
The picture shows a group of young Lebanese driving through a South Beirut neighborhood devastated by Israeli bombings. The picture was taken on 15 August 2006, the first day of the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah when thousands of Lebanese started returning to their homes.

excerpt:
"At first everyone said: That must be those rich, chic Lebanese visiting the poor neighborhood like a tourist attraction," Bissan says. "But that's completely untrue."
"We're from Dahiye, from the suburb, ourselves"
On Aug. 15, the day of the ceasefire, Jad borrowed a friend's orange Mini Cooper. For weeks the siblings had heard nothing about whether or not their apartment block was still standing -- now that the fighting was over, they wanted to go and see for themselves.
