R50/53 Cooper Works upgrade
Are any of you considering the performance upgrade from Cooper Works? I looked over the Tech Bulletin, you get a lot of hardware, but is 35 hp worth $4500. The 200 hp is made at 6995 rpm, I wonder if it makes any significant difference at lower rpms.
Wonder if the 200 hp may be under estimated, and I was surprised there was no intake change in the package.

My personal opinion is it's not worth the money. With other upgrades that don't cost as much, you can get very close to the same hp the JCW packages offers.

With just an intake and pulley, my MCS "prob has" 183 HP and 175lbs of torque. Although it is less HP, I only have 2 less torque than the JCW kit which probably makes my MCS just as quick. The best part is I've only spent $700 so far and I might even be getting better gas mileage now. A new ECU software is out that will give 17HP and 5 lbs of torque in addition to the pulley. That'll put me at 200hp and 180 lbs of torque - essentially "beating" the JCW kit. And instead of around$6k with installation, I'll only be out $1400 - WITH INSTALLATION!
With just the intake and new pulley, my MCS is a night and day difference compared to a stock MCS. Night and day...a whole different class of vehicle!
There are plenty of threads on this site discussing the pros and cons of the JCW kit and aftermarket accessories. Look through the Performance Mods section and you'll find lots of useful info.
I highly recommend Helix13 in Philly is you're on the East Coast.Helix
Check out MINI-Motorsports in Denver if you're out west or want to order aftermarket parts to be delivered to you. <A HREF="http://www.mini-motorsport.com" TARGET="_blank">

You can't go wrong with either of these places - both are top notch and VERY experienced with the MINI.
