LeMans Karting event at Victory Lane

I recently got this email about a karting event at Victory Lane. It's from Ronn Hale BMWCCA Anyone interested?? Unfortunately, I work most saturdays and cannot commit. Sounds like fun, it would be nice to have the MINI club represented

Hi Everyone!,
Well, I know you've been waiting for it, but are you up to the challenge??? If you are, I'll need your help narrowing down a date for the next Victory Lane Karting/Sandlapper Chapter BMW CCA Car Club Karting Challenge!!! Dates available are as follows:

Jan 20th

Jan 27th

Feb 3rd

All dates are on Saturdays. I'd like to have arrival time from 12:30pm to 1:00pm, and get the first driver's meeting underway by 1pm. The event should end around 4:30pm Please let me know your date preference (or order of) and if there is a date(s) that you can't attend. This is vital to the final driver count for the event and catering costs. I have negotiated a special price and catering for this event based on 10 to 13 teams with 3 to 4 drivers in each team. If we don't get 30 drivers minimum, the charge per driver will be higher and the race will be shorter. Although it is mainly the responsibility of the drivers from each car club to form their own teams, I will be compliling a list of drivers from each club in case you don't those from your club that are planning on attending.

So, what is the racing format? We will start with a 6-minute practice session for each group of drivers (10-13 drivers per group.) This will serve as your warm-up or refresher of the course and karts. The feature race will be a team driven Lemans. You determine your driver order and pitstop strategies. A drawing will be held for karts and starting positions. Drivers will rotate every 10 minutes by making a pit stop inside a 3-lap window. Total length of the race will be determined by the number of drivers per team. If most or all of the teams have 4 drivers, then we will have a 2-hour race. If the teams end up being 2 to 3 drivers each, it will be 90 minutes.

...And what is on the table? A challenge from myself on behalf of the Sandlapper Chapter BMW CCA to the car clubs and their respective members that it reaches. Listed below are the targed clubs:

Carolinas Miata Club (believe it?...they're the main challenger!)

Carolinas Region Porsche Club of America (the "other" Germans)

Carolina Regional Mustang Club (you guys haven't run out of gas yet, have you?)

Metrolina Corvettes (the newbies on the block! we'll let you chase us, if you can keep up!)

SVT Cobra Mustang Club (fast, yes, but can you make it brake and turn?!!)

Honda S2000 Club (want another chance at the title?)

Tarheel Chapter BMW CCA (a friendly challenge?.....yeah, right!)

Coastal Empire Region Porsche Club of America (will the Dark Side prevail? Will they even show up?)

Queen City Corvette Club (...um...are you guys out there??)

National Council of Corvettes/Carolina Corvettes (sure, you can shine 'em up, but are your driving skills up to the test?)

I know you now want know what it costs to try to "open up a can" on us. For the racing and lunch (BBQ and Brats, salad, sides and drinks - or something like that) it will run $60/driver. Those of you that have been here before for a Lemans race know that this is a great package deal. We may get some prizes/awards, but that has not been confirmed, yet. If any of your car club officers would like to contribute prizes (your chapter apparel, entry to one of your club's events, a complimentary dinner at your club's monthly meeting, etc.), please let me know. There will be something for the winning team.

Talk smack all you want, but it's time to ante-up. Once the date is made based on your replies, I'll send out the event registration form. I will need you to fill it out and mail it back to me with a check for the proper amount. There will be NO "I'll-pay-at-the-gate" for this event, it is pre-registration ONLY. All the info you need will be either in the next message or on the registration form. In the event that you need to cancel your registration, YOU MUST find a replacement driver or LOSE YOUR ENTRY FEE (I have no control over YOUR schedule or sicknesses.) Please notify me via email if you need to cancel and/or the name of your replacement.

Please feel free to pass this message along to your friends in your car club (there are over 150 people receiving this message as of this emailing on Jan 6th) because it will take a lot to come up with 30 to 40 drivers for this event. If there is enough room due to any of the clubs chickening-out, we may have rooms for more than one team per club. Last time, we ended up with only 3 clubs representing. When you reply to this message, please note your name and car club affiliation as well as your event date preferences.

If you would like to be removed from my auto events email list, please reply with "Remove" and your name in the body of the message.

Thank you for your time, and I hope to see many of you there...disappearing from my rearview.

I'm up for it on the 3rd. Sounds like I could be on a couple different teams but I'll see what I can bring for M2C2. Anyone up for practice before or after the charity run tomorrow? Otherwise I'll have to go blind.

No other takers for Karting? Do we have a team? Come on we can't let all those Detroit muscle cars show us up when we know we can take them.

Bluesmini, did you make it? I didn't see your post about being on the Tarheel team. I would have come over and looked for you. I was wearing a black helment with red horns on the front and the obnoxious green lettering that my kids put on for me. [/SIZE]

I was pretty happy with how my team did taking into account that none of us had driven on that track before.

My team was there in force. We even had a podium finish. Take a look at my 2nd and 3rd gallery pics. That should give you an idea of what team I was on. The event was a blast. My back and arms are still sore. that was a lot of seat time, 4 people 2 hours.
