Aux input for 2002 ?

I understand the std Aux Input will not work on a 2002 MC.
Is there any good news for a 2002, non-ipod user?
I use an FM transmitter now - hate it - too clunky, & sound is no good.

Anyone else have a (more elegant) solution ?

Thanks

Put a WTB out for an '03 - '04 radio, they fit and you can use the aux cable with that. I'm quite sure there's some out there.

I'll bet there a plenty of NAMmers who have upgraded stereos and would love to get that dust collector out of the garage. I don't trust that Fleabay seller; he usually doesn't list what year the part came from, just what it will fit.

Thanks for the replies,
I'll definitely pursue the WTB thing.
Hook-up the aux input during the swap, . . . nice.
Why didn't I think of that?

no need to answer that.

Thanks

Are all mini radios directly swappable? Can I simply drop in a sirius enabled mini radio along with all the other sirius bits pretty easily? I'd also like an aux input, but I'm thinking of a denison icelink instead.

Yes, they swap year to year very easily. I've done an '04 into an '02 and an '06 into an '04. The physical connections are all the same. Don't know about the sirius bits, though I assume they'd be the same.

How do I find an '03 or newer stereo?

I bought the AUX cable, and instaled it into our '02 MINI - and no AUX mode on the stereo

Just helped a friend intstall his AUX cable in 5 minutes, and was insanely jealous when his worked!!! Now I'm serious about fixing this issue.

Can someomne help me find an '03 or newer MINI head unit?
What is a "WTB"?

Thanks

Mike

Mike, 02 stereos are not aux enabled. WTB refers to posting a "want to buy" ad in the Marketplace sub-forum. There should be quite a few folks with 03-up head units for sale, given the number of posts I've seen about upgrading stereos. If you can, go for an 05+ head unit. This will give you MP3 capability.

You can also check out Crutchfield online. They have awesome customer service, and just about every single plug adaptor made to make the wiring easy as pie. You can find almost everything you need on their site, but if you need to call, they can talk you through anything.

I added the aux to my 03 H/K unit (NOT the IPOD adapter/controller) fairly simply. Although I am fairly small, I felt like I had auditioned for Cirque de Soleil or the Taiwanese Acrobats after I was done - at least my chiropractor was happy.

good luck!
