V1 Remote Mounting

I was reading a thread on the Garmin/Mini nuvi nav unit, and saw this pic. of the mounting system...this got me to thinking that using a similar bracket, the V1 remote count be mounted in the same fashion- to the rev counter. realoemparts.com does not have a listing for the bracket, so I'm going to check with my dealer to see if its available.

Looks very big for the V1 remote, which is only 1"x1"x2". I don't know if you saw my prior thread on the subject, but the R56 has a very handy, perfectly sized, otherwise unused spot on the dash, to the left of the steering wheel, very near where the mount you pictured is, where it can stick right on. It's in my gallery.

Agreed, but it could be "cut down", or for that matter a custom bracket could be made. I was unaware that the rev counter had two threaded mounting holes on the back of it.

Other options that I have seen are -

1) installing the V1 remote inside a guage pod - very cooler
2) incorporating the V1 remote into the rear view mirror - max cool.

threads exist on both.

True, but much more complex, more permanent and, in some cases, easily visible from outside the vehicle, which defeats the point of the remote to begin with.

V1 Remote Display

I took the easy way out, I mounted the remote on the dash with double sided tape bottom left hand corner of windshield behind the state inspection sticker. Works great for me, easy to see, and not visible when looking at vehicle straight on.

I did exactly that back in January:

I just cut the bracket myself out of a piece of aluminum. More info here.

the only time I have an issue is when I have the top down... I have a hard time seeing the arrows.

I have mine there too. Affixed with two little patches of velcro. I have it wired with the curly cord - so I can pull it off and toss it down onto the parcel shelf in about 3 seconds. I also have the remote audio control and it is in the top of my parcel shelf on the right side - easy to reach for volume control or to turn off power to the whole system if necessary. And the "head unit" is wrapped in black felt except for the "windows" - doesn't look like a radar detector...

I mounted mine under the toggles attached with double sticky tape from the top of the remote and the side--stuck to the down pillar, so two points of attachment. I also inset it a bit so it's in shade even during the day time. But I've since moved--I have plans to make a holder that attaches to the bottom of my Nuvi 350 as well.

But then you can't see anything without taking your eyes way off the road. I suppose that works OK if you have the volume up but when I have passengers I have it barely audible...it needs to be in the corner of my vision (and likewise why I colored the LEDs).
I do have my jammer down there under the toggles though...not much visual information on that to worry about.

Is that your reflection in the tach??

Yeah I've got my audio set LOUD. I only have to glance down when it goes off for the direction--just a glance, less time than looking for the buttons on the headunit to change CD tracks, or less time than looking for the toggle for my fog lights.

I put it there because it's not visible from the outside should I get stopped by a cop...like I almost did yesterday on my way to work---had a big truck barreling down on me, so I sped up instead of getting out of the way, lol. My mistake. Was quite a bit over the speed limit, though not much faster than the traffic around me, and noticed in what would be my blind spot an officer on a bike--I've got my mirrors set so I don't have blind spots...so nothing I could do but hit the brakes and pray. I usually like to just let off the gas to not make it so obvious, but it was too late--but the officer instead sped up to the truck that was pushing me, got along side them, and kinda gave them a bad look before taking off. No radar could have done any good there.

But I plan to move it higher along with my GPS similar to the OEM 2007 GPS but on the right side cause I hate using the NAV with my left hand. I've got a gauge pod so I've got some mounting bolts to attach to. I will post pix when I get to that stage.

Looking down quickly to adjust something is what cost me $5000 in an accident several years ago. I try very hard to place everything I can within view. MFSW takes care of the radio, and I have all the toggles physically memorized.

Only when I'm turning, I particularly like it at night because I can run it silent or very near, it sits in my peripheral and I use the tach for my speed so it is no worse an adjustment to see and interpret the V1. Plus most never even notice its there. I have debated coloring the band indentification LEDs, but not worth it just yet.

I mounted mine so I can look and see my speed, rpm and radar in one glance. this is really the only place that I need to look to see what I need. Once I add boost guage and oil temp on either side of the tach all my important guages are in one spot.

This keeps the cops from seeing the radar display though my window... and keeps trailers to a minimum.

As for police seeing it once I pulled over. I could car less really. They usually make some sort of snide comment about it and then I turn into a total smart a$$ and say, "Are you going to give me the ticket or not."

IDK... usually when im speeding im really speeding and if i get caught... that's a risk i take. I totally agree with josh though... simplfiy the places you have to glance too and you will be a much safer driver.
