I see lots of talk about offsets on here and really have no idea what that means to me. I have original equipment R85 17 S-lites and tires on my 05 MCS. I just aquired a set of used R83 16' 5 stars that I plan on mounting some Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 195/55-16 winter performance tires on. Is there anyting I have to do other than just take off the 17's and put on the 16's?

Yes. When swapping wheels for winter:

-Check all the tires (older and new) for any defects/problems.
-If you have lots of poor roads in your area you can do wheel alignment about once every year or two- this helps to think about when changing to new tires as you want the tires to wear evenly. toe settings often get altered with potholes and you want the right and left toe settings on the front and back to be both in stock range.
-Make sure your tire pressure is correct about 33 to 37 psi front and rear
-Make sure the tires were mounted correctly if they are directional tires- treads must face a certain direction as marked by an arrow on the tire sidewall (if applicable).
-Clean and wax the wheel itself before mounting- this may be a rare time to have the wheels off and easy to clean.
-Check that all of the wheel weights and valves are in good shape- sometimes the weights can be damaged and fall off.
- Mark your calendar or driving log when you did the tire change and when you'd like to change back to summer tires (May?).
- Store your old wheels (after you clean them and wax them) in a clean dry place stacked up horizontally one on another and covered in plastic bags individually, away from any electromagnetic motors and not in UV sunlight.
This will help them stay ready for use later. Storing dirty wheels allows for the wheel finish to be damaged by brake dust and residue sitting on the rims.
