Navigation & Audio SIRIUS Receiver Install Question
SIRIUS Receiver Install Question
So I've downloaded the official instructions on how to do this and it doesn't look TOO hard. Has anyone here done it themselves before? And if so, how hard is it to do? I'm not that mechanically inclined and don't have an extensive set of tools.
I am thinking about getting the OEM Sirius receiver and kit and putting it in my MCS. I am choosing the OEM versus the other choices because I really would like to be able to control the radio on the steering wheel. I called Mini of Towson and they said $695 installed.
Any other recommendations for Sirius receivers in a 05 MCS? Thanks.

If you're pretty handy it's an involved job but not difficult, if you're not very handy this could be a very challenging job and involve a few emergency runs for tools, beer, etc...
I have an '06 Mini that did not come from the factory with Sirius Radio. I purchased it separately and installed in myself. The most dificult challenge when installing the antena is getting between the headliner and the roof. You don't have to remove the headliner, just remove the rubber seal. then, pull down on the headliner (gently) and make room for your hand to slide in. It's not rocket science, just be gentle. Each plug is unique in design, so yo can't mix the two up. After you get the (2) plugs in, the rest is a cake walk.
Now that I've upgraded my system, I went with XM instead of Sirius. The main reason is because of XM Traffic. So, I have the perfect solution at the perfect price!

PM with questions. Good luck.

Thought I would share...
Start by removing the rubber seal for the hatch. You can get to the antenna 'nut' by pooping out the done center panel above. You will need a deep set socket. Sorry, I forget the size. Think spark plug socket. You can just use your hands on the socket. This is the panel that houses the alarm motion and microphone. If you have the factory OEM alarm, it will be connected to wires. No need to disconnect as there is plenty of slack to let it hang down. Also, it's not necessary to remove the passenger and driver side rear pillar panels, but popping them out slightly helps with pulling down the headliner allowing for more room to maneuver. Don't be afraid to pull down on the headliner, just be careful. Take your time. It's not a difficult job, just requires patience. There are (2) plugs for the antenna and two more plugs (noticeably longer black wires) that run down behind the passenger side rear pillar. They plug into the receiver in the passenger rear.
Hope this helps. -m
