Heated_Seat_Hemorrhoids

I was warned this morning about heated MINI seats contributing to hemorrhoids. I was howling since it was the first time I had heard it. But, apparently, it's true . Anybody else have any similar "safety" advice?

Greg

You haven't lived until you've had surgery to fix that "little" problem !

Let's hope the rumor is unfounded because if it's even partially true, I'm disconnecting the seats just to make sure I don't risk going through THAT again.

I dont know about you guys but the heated seats feel real good on the "onions" during a long road trip.

Apparently in the Scandinavian countries there is a high incidence of low sperm count. It's due to the heated seats (and hottubs and saunas).

I can understand how they could be bad if you were having a flare-up (you don't put heat on inflammation), but if you ask anyone's grandmomma they'll let you know that you get the 'roids from sitting on *cold* concrete.

Either way, given what the heated seats do for nightmarish cramps, I'll take my chances...

haven't heard this one before... since I've had 'roids for years, I think I'll just continue to use my seats and conduct my own 'scientific experiment' by sitting in my heated seats and driving my MINI as much as possible...

Interesting topic, but where did you hear this, GregO? Sounds like an urban legend to me.

This is true. Its one of the first things the old-timers told me when I started my job 35 years ago. I never paid much attention to it though because....

Oops! Time out! Somethin's burning!

Wait a sec. Roids are inflammation?

Inflamed veins. Hmm.

Then let me ask this. The common treatment for Roids is sitting in a hot bath. It shrinks em, just like Prep H does chemically. So why wouldnt heated seats be good for those bad boys?

What if you used the heated seats to warm up the preppie H, think one would offset the other?

all kidding aside, I'd really like to see a medical writup on this subject...

I agree with the cold concrete part, i have a landscape company and my guys won't sit on curbs or any concrete surface in fear of getting the roids.
i speak from experience.
but lazers can do miracles

Well, I never heard all that stuff bout roids, but I know if you rub a wart with a dishcloth and throw the dishcloth out the back door the wart will go away.

Sitting in a hot bath doesn't shrink anything. Heat doesn't shrink anything except shrinky dinks. I can imagine that the warm bath could be good to soothe them (this seems counterintuitive to me so I looked it up, thus forever tainting my auto fill-in google search box, and have found it to be true) but it won't shrink inflammation.

Given that heat is not, apparently, bad for the 'roids, I'm especially perplexed by the initial post. Life is so complicated.

I've heard that Prep-H will shrink bags under a person's eyes?

OmToast and Chows -
It's actually a luke warm bath, a Sitz bath I believe, and yes, it is just for soothing. As are tucks, which are witch hazel wipes. And, as any of these fellow contributors will tell you, just about nothing helps when you're inflamed! Worst condition ever. But, sitting for a long time is a known cause, i.e. people who work at desk jobs for prolonged periods without regular exercise. That being said, I think our only concern is motoring too much, heated or not, and forgetting to exercise in fresh air between jaunts

I dont know what you googled buy I found many references to hot baths or sitz baths to relieve the pain and shrink them. Now they are two main types, texteranal and internal.

All I can say is that last time such a problem was bothersome I told the doc and he said ... take a hot bath because it does the exact same thing Prep H does but is more soothing. And its free compared to buying some ointment.
