Help! Tire newbie hit a pothole, need suggestions.
Hi all,
On my way to work today, I managed to be "forced" to run into a nasty pothole, and I knew I hit it bad based on the loud noise. I took a look at my tire and noticed that I do have some "tire bulge" and my rim is slightly bent. The tire does not appear to be leaking air yet, however. Grrrr....
Anyway, I have a very basic stock '05 MC with 15" tires, and I was curious as to what my options are. I know that I can take it to the dealer, but I have seen some crazy prices on this board ($300 for a replacement), but maybe it's because those were related to run-flats. I'm not a tire expert by any stretch, but I was thinking the dealer might be my best option. I only have ~8k miles on this car, so I don't think I want to replace all of my tires.
I'm guessing I have to replace my rim, right? And if I stick with the same other 3 tires, then I suppose that I have to go to the dealer in order to get this done (to get the same matching holey rim), correct?
I'm just looking for opinions from people who are much more tire-worthy than I am, so thank you very much in advance for the help!

i was about to suggest the market place to see if someone has an
odd set and wanted to sell just one wheel with the same tires.
if that's not an option, i would check the refurb ones might work for
you. some places take trade-ins too on the bent one. Make sure
you remove your center cap before you ship.

I second that...
Also, if your sidewall has a bubble on it your tire is shot. The wheel may be able to be repaired, if it's not, ebay is usually a viable alternative. You can check the board here for replacement rims, though people generally don't want to sell just one rim out of 4, cause that makes the other 3 harder to sell. May be time for a new set of lightweight rims!
