Dumb Question about Euro Parcel Shelf Trays

I'm considering getting a Euro parcel shelf, but I wonder if the items you place in it tend to slide around (out into the driver's floor board?) if the level of driving is say... "spirited?"

I like the idea of utilizing the space as a shelf, but from the photos I've seen, it looks like it could also double as a 24" long launch pad for things like Palm Pilots, cell phones, etc.

Any thoughts pro or con?

Yep. After almost three years, no launched items.

I have had mine for over a year with no problems. That includes a trip to the dragon which tossed everything else in the car around but not what was on the shelf.

I haven't had mine for a very long time. All I have put on it is my sunglasses in the case, travel size kleenex box, and digital camera in the case. In 6 weeks, the glasses came out of the case once, the kleenex box never moved, and the camera fell off the first day. The rubber pad keeps stuff from sliding, especially sideways, but it cannot keep it from falling toward the rear of the car, if the item is big, and you really punch it. I don't even think of this as a drawback, just reality.

On my shelf, I have: a spare short dog leash. A plastic bag of dog cookies. A cell phone which really needs to be charged. A hairbrush. A tire gauge. A pair of thin fleece gloves. A spare tire stem cap because the package came with five. A rock that my 5yr old neighbor gave me that she thought was pretty and I didn't have the heart to tell her was a bit of glass slag. A tin of cinnamon Altoids. A spare antenna ball for when my sparkly pink pirate princess one gets swiped, which it doubtless will.

None of it has come out to visit yet, despite forgetting it was all there.

I agree with all the above. I keep sunglasses, a CD case, and a Braun electric razor. I've never launched anything off the shelf. Some folks think the matt for the shelf is overpriced, but it definately does the job!

I like my euro shelf. It holds a bunch of stuff and keeps it out of sight. I haven't had any problem with things coming off of it or sliding around.

Thanks Everyone!

Plenty of good testimonials. I'll get one. Sounds like a good place to keep things like a tire gauge. Glove box is too remote for me and I tend to forget that there's a guage in there.

Now that is impressive!!! I just can't stand clutter, so I've always opted out.

hummm... not sure if you want to keep a measuring equipment in the
interior prone to extreme temps.

I used to place my garage door opener on my parcel shelf. On two occassions, I forgot to remove the opener prior to going out on a track for a track day event. It slid back and forth quite a bit but never left the shelf. I quickly removed it when I had a chance but was impressed with the ability to hold onto the items.

It is also perfect for a cabrio in keeping things out of the wind stream. I have certainly lost small light objects to the wind before when accelerating up to freeway speed when the object is sitting on the rear seat. The shelf is the perfect place to keep things in stable air.

Also, if you have the driving lights, there is a little flat panel in the parcel shelf that is perfect to mount the light switch on - just get a Dremel tool and open up a hole in the flat plate that the switch can press into.

I think that the shelf is one of those indispensible options that has no downside (what are you giving up?) and great utility.

Someone even researched that it is acceptable under SCAA rules as a track modification (in case you were wondering !!)

Yep - thank goodness for this rule:

"Accessories, gauges, indicators, lights and other appearance,
comfort and convenience modifications which have no effect on
performance and/or handling and do not materially reduce the
weight of the car are permitted."

Before finding this, I was worried that all my JCW carbon fiber stuff, as well as my driving lights, would keep me out of G Stock class, since they are technically not available from the factory (they're added on at the dealer).

To be safe, I still swap out my Whalen shift **** for the stock one when I get to the track, but it's nice to know that things like the Euro parcel shelf are okay for stock class.

It's actually made by MINI, so fit and finish are excellent. Moss Mini has it in their "Interior / Accessories" section for $90, and Minimania has it in their "interior" section for $100.
