Jack Stands

Mitchman brought this up in another forum, but I figured I'd ask here since a lot of guy swap all four tires at events.

Where's the best place to put the jack stands under a Mini to have all four wheels off the ground?

Do one side at a time, then you don't need the stands. Getting all corners up on stands can be tricky, I have done it in the garage. I normally set them on the jacking points.

the jacking points work best. however it would be a waste of time to do that. like james said one side at a time is best

In six years of autocrossing, I've never needed to get all four corners off the ground on the site at one time. I don't even bother with jackstands, because I don't get under the car when changing tires, and I always jack on level ground.

Ok, I don't think that the question has been answered.

I have had the car on four jack stands a couple of times. Each time, I took a two by four about 1-2 feet long, lined it up with the "frame rail" that runs just inside of the jacking pucks, and that is where I jacked it (the two by four spreads the load along the "rail"). I made sure was far enough back to allow jack stands to fit once it was jacked up. I put the jack stands under the jacking pucks. Then I just went to the other side and did the same thing. I must say that I was always concerned about the side that was on jack stands while I was jacking the other side up, worried that a jacking puck would break off, but fortunately it never happened. I also had a jack on both sides as a back-up in case something happened.

Thanks Jake. Funny that you answered my question. I should have just emailed you!

Good luck next week! (I'll be thinking of you guys while I'm driving the new car)
