I had mine chromed when I first got my MCS, (Nov. 2002). They still look great.

Some folks say having wheels chromed adds a lot of weight to them, is that true?

What is "a lot"?

Another option would be to find someone that could polish them & shoot them with clear coat... JMO.

In newark NJ theres a guy who chromes anything you give him. He dips it in various stripping and prepping liquids, then plops it in his big tank for chrome fun. It is really really cheap to do if you live near a plant for it.

hint on finding one: Old school grocery carts. I believe they use this type of plant, that would be the lead into finding one. You can dip anything.

I believe that chroming adds 1-3 lbs per wheel, depending on the wheel.

Jeff... I hope you have found our local MINI club at www.metroplexmini.org. You might want to ask there for a chromer, as someone might have had this done. The dealers might also know someone...

From a quick web search (not experience... I have never heard of them until I did a search for "electroplate dallas tx chrome wheel" on Google):
