Is Borla "sport" Worth The $$$

Is there enough bang for the buck here? Should I replace a Borla "street system" with a Borla "Sport" system? I would think the Sport system is less weight? I am racing in SCCA SOLO II G Stock class and can use most anything cat back.

I have the sport/race exhaust on my car. I love the tone. The car wasnt dyno'd before and after so I'm not positive on the exact performance gains. I still have this exhaust on even after adding the turbo and still has a great tone. I doubt thre is really much weight difference between the 2 exhausts.

I know nothing about Autox these days. The sound is much greater, sound great. Street is just about quiet. For weight, might be a wash. Race using a resonator but Street has bigger mufflers

I have read that someone dynoed a JCW exhaust and then Borla race and the Borla race got 2 more BHP

The Borla Race exhaust is one of the few on the market for the MINI that make power over stock. Get it.

I've had the Borla "Race" for over a year. While I am very happy wth the sound and fit of the system, I have had huge problems with resonators failing and rattling like crazy -- I've had to have it replaced at least 4 times -- and I need it replaced yet again. Not sure if this problem is specific to my car or what -- but I wouldn't pay to go from the "street" to the "race" exhaust (btw I don't think that Borla officially refers to it as the "race" exhaust - and there may be a reason they don't).

Still have mine since 03...with the exception of the front resonator falling apart (which gave me the green light to replace it with a 16" glass pack), it's still holding up just great...the sound got more amplified with the glass pack and spinctor surgery

I want to replace my broken resonator too. I'm ignorant -- what's a glass pack? are they available? how much are they? and are they hard to install

Glass packs are fiberglass filled/straight-through resonators which have been around since Muscle Cars have been in existance...you can get many varieties through Summit Racing

Thanks. I tried a plain straight pipe (from the stock exhaust) in place of the Borla resonator, but I hated the sound -- no where near as sweet as the Borla when it's working properly.

Then you might not want to do the glass pack...Mine sounds much more agressive than a stock Borla...

Ah yes.

The Cherry Bomb. I ran those back in the sixties and seventies.

As for the Borla Race, I've had one on my 2003 for more that two years with no problems at all. The sound is way better than the street version.

If you can sell your Borla Street then it really is the difference in cost plus installation and the risk that you could run into resonator problems as mentioned.

The Borla race owner in my area is doing very well but he doesn't autocross or track his MCS. I'd suspect that tracked MINIs might burn out a resonator due to heat especially with an aftermarket header.

Borla race or sport has more aggressive tone, slightly louder but not much, different tips, about the same weight as the street version.

How competitive are you in autocross GS class? If you are looking for being more competitive your exhaust is not the first place I would make changes that would impact your times. There is nothing wrong with the Borla street for autocross. (Helix13 is a good place to check for prices- let them know what others are charging).

Best place for upgrades in G Stock class is with wheels and with tires.
16x6.5 X-lytes or SSR comps or Rota Slipstreams for rims and Kumho V710 competition tires in 215/40-16.

Don't forget to drop in a new clean air filter used only for autocross events.

I've had my Borla sport/race for about 3 years now, and it just sounds better and better. The sound has definitely changed - it seems more mellow now, and a bit deeper as well. The one million mile warranty is definitely a bonus, because I plan on having this car as a side project until MY motor stops (not the car's - that can be fixxed).

Get one. You'll be happy.
