Has there been any talk about the Miles Per Gallon the 07 S model is going to get. I am debating on getting an 2006 S model, but if the 07 gets better gas mileage, I might wait.

 

We won't be getting any road tests until the cars are delivered. So everyone has to believe what the factory tells them.

Auto Express Weekly (it may be a magazine but it arrives in my email) features the 2007 MINI in the latest issue. It states that BMW claims the 2007 gets 12% better gas mileage than the current series. I hope so. The current's gas mileage is the only thing I don't like about anotherwise delightful car.

 

The MC is being said to have an EPA highway mileage of over 40. The turbo, variable valve timing, and other changes in the new engine should also give the "S" a comparable increase in mileage.

At this point I would definately get an 07'.

 

There was a blurb in one of the review articles recently that had someone quoted saying the MC would get AT LEAST 47 mpg! I'm still going with my '06 though... the restylings haven't settled too well with me and it gets good enough gas mileage for now...

 

If the 07 S can get at least 35 then I am going to wait for the 07. With the way gas prices are going up these days, I need to get better MPG. My current Car a subaru Outback gets around 19/20 city. The current 06 Cooper S doesn't get that much better.

 

I sure wish they could come out with official MPG numbers for the 07.

 

I had a 2004 WRX wagon for a while which is turbocharged, and with my experience reading about and owning a turbo engine would lead me to believe that the '07 you'll be able to choose your gas mileage.

If you're putting your foot in it constantly the car will drink. Plain and simple. I was thinking about eventually getting a 4dr 2.0t GTI for my wife, and what I've read with those seems to also indicate that the gas mileage is directly related to how you drive. The '04 wrx I had was this way as well. If I babied it I could get high 20s regularly, but if I drove like I usually drive I'd get about 21mpg.

The V8 S4 I have currently gets 15mpg mixed driving and 20mpg highway. No matter what you do. It is always the same.

So yeah I hope the new MCS has some better savings. I am guessing BMW has had this in mind because who wouldn't want to have a little and efficient sports car like the mini? It is definitely in their best interests from a marketing standpoint to make sure this is a reality.

 

I doubt the MCS will go up THAT much... I mean, you are sacrifcing the mileage for the increased HP, etc... On motoring file, it said the MC was going to get around 40mpg highway, which isn't really that much more than now... I'm thinking where I read 'at least 47mpg' may have been in Imperial Gallons...

 

I know when my wife was looking at a volvo, both the NA model and the turbo were rated at the same MPG, so I assumed that the cooper and cooper S should be rated very close to, if not the same. As I really don't need to say.. The turbo eliminates the parasitic drag of the supercharger, so provided you can keep your foot out of it, the cooper and S should be able to attain very similar; if not the same mpg. Last I knew, the current cooper was rated 36 and the S was rated 32. 4mpg increase, while nice, is hard to get excited over, now if they were able to get it to 47mpg, I'd be getting in line to replace my '03.

With current gas prices, whichever auto company pulls their head out of their heiny and brings a car to market that is inline with european and other world wide consumption standards is going to make a killing. I just wish I could afford one of these...

Specs at Mini site giving a MC a 6 speed....that will drastically increase Mileage for non S cars. The one thing I don't like about my 06 MC is not having a 6th gear for cruising 70 mph+

 

I hear ya! My first car was an '89 Volvo 740 Turbo Wagon. I was getting around 15 mpg because I was always punching the turbo. Then again, gas only cost $.90/gallon at the time...

 

Whoa MPG specs ARE up but it's in L/100Km. I have a speadsheet a home that does the conversion but if someone has some time lets post them.

MPG would have been my only buyers remorse issue for my '06 MC but if this is close to accurate, it's not much better and actually worse in the city.

 

Actually that is the MCS mileage... The MC is actually quite a bit more (other than city). Someone just didn't click on the right link... It all links right on that site if you follow it correctly!

Wow - those city/highway deltas are HUGE at 21/15 respectively for the MC/MCS. Then again, those aren't generated by the EPA test criterion. 50mpg?! That would qualify for hybrid in the commuter lane status here in CA...

 

It's not confirmed yet, so it's just a rumor, but I was told today by a local MINI employee that the new MINI may run on REGULAR gas . That would help.
