M7 DFIC Finally Here!

Well, it has finally happened. My M7 DFIC, polished and ceramic coated has arrived, and with the help of fellow NAM'er kyriian, has been successfully installed on the Coopersport MINI!

I know there have been quite a few customers who have expressed interest in this new and much hyped product from M7 Tuning. I'm now happy to announce that the waiting game has been greatly minimized as the final production units are in full swing.

The install was fairly painless, in fact the more tricky part of the install had nothing to do with the DFIC and instead had everything to do with the Oil Catch Can I decided to install at the same time. Just made sense that with a new intercooler going on, now would be a good time to install the catch can to avoid gumming up the new DFIC. The only thing I can suggest for others installing a DFIC is to clean the rubber end boots and connecting metal really well with brake cleaner or rubbing alcohol. This cured my slipping boots problem perfectly. Even the tiniest amout of oil residue and the rubber on metal contact will be compromised.

So aside from looking killer under the hood it also looks meaner on top. I had the new Ram Air Hood Scoop colour matched Aspen White to the roof to continue the colour scheme of the Coopersport MINI. It installed without issue or modification and looks great.

Now, on to performance. My measurements are by no means scientific and are purely butt dyno observations. Conclusion, it does exactly what it is claimed and supposed to do. By reducing the temps of the intake charge and resisting heat soak from the engine, boost stays consistent and response is much quicker. With Herman along for the test rides we drove the car very hard with the ambient temp around 27 C (Approx. 80 F) and observed no lag in boost or acceleration. The part that really caught us off guard was after slowing down for a few minutes in traffic and basically coasting. This is when most "S" owners will feel the effect of heat soak with the engine block radiating high temps into the intercooler with little to no flowing air to cool it down. Usually at this point when you mash the throttle you feel the MINI struggling to get back up to speed... a general sluggishness until you've been at speed again for a little while to bring the intake temps back down. Well, this didn't happen. After getting past the city streets and hitting the throttle the car literally took off instantly. Surprising enough to the point that kyriian and I looked at each other and said "Holy #%$". It was a fun discovery.

So to make a long story short, the M7 DFIC is an easily installable upgrade that adds considerable performance gains to your Cooper "S" while at the same time lending a very sporting and aggressive look to your MINI both atop and beneath the bonnet. A highly recommended investment in your driving pleasure!

Below are some pics of the just completed install.
