R50/53 You first ticket in the MINI
Your first ticket in the MINI
Now I know that these little buggers are speedy... And I know mistakes (and small town speed traps
) happen... soo who had the lowest odometer reading when you received your first ticket?

I was doing 75 in a 70
But I was in Portales, NM with PA tags and the officer, who was clearly very new to this, actually said; "doubt you'd wanna come back to this place [to fight it]". I think that was probably at 15-17K and 6 months since delivery. I may not win any awards for lowest odo reading, but I'm pretty sure mine is the lamest ticketing
Meh.

performance award
I don't remember the odo reading, but it was one week to the day when I took delivery back in May 2002. 75 mph in a 45 mph zone. The Officer didn't even know what a MINI Cooper was. That was also my LAST ticket (knock wood).
41 in a 30 at about 600K on an unfamiliar street. Two chicks in a spritely MINI in the middle of the week - we're pretty certain he was bored to tears ... mentioned something about watching out for "puppies and kittens" crossing the road. Yes, because that happens all the time along a parking garage downtown. No ticket though

Well, then I'll admit that I'm one of those guys that freaks out about people messing with my MINI. I didn't want anybody scratching or dinging it with their door or even walking close to my MINI, so I parked sideways so that I was taking up two handicapped parking spaces and one expecting mothers parking space.
I must say that the police officer ticketing me was very unsympathetic and didn't really seem to think that my perfectly Zaino'd BRG paint deserved special treatment. The judge in the courthouse was even worse.

Last month, 6 months and 14K into ownership, I ran afoul of a very fiesty HPD officer. Gave me tickets for 40 in a 30, no front license plate, and violating a restriction code on my DL (failing to have "corrective lenses required" removed after having Lasik surgery). Have paid a lawyer who will most likely get them all dismissed.
Oh I got one ticket only...going 60 in a 35 mph zone. I have no remorse...I was passing a big 'ol lethargic truck that had been doing 25 mph for some time and I had to get around it to make a right up ahead. I simply will not dilly-dally passing a massive truck in my MINI. Not gonna happen.
Problem was, I was focused on safely passing and not on the speedo. Given the distance involved I was in total disbelief that my little Cooper could actually get up to 60 in that short of a space, but alas, it must be so (I did some "experiments").
Yes, I learned to not underestimate my Cooper, and I learned to get no where near lethargic, massive trucks. And I learned that that particular area is patrolled often and folks get pulled over all...the...time! Not me any more though.

I got a $190 ticket (57 on a 45 MPH access road to a highway... a regular speedtrap for Plano, TX), but it was dismissed w/ a drivers training course. Only 4,000 miles or so.
Still with temp tags
I got my first ticket 23 days after delivery. I had about 1900 miles. The trooper clocked me at 84 in a 65. I am glad I did not have my real tags yet. (KWK MINI). The fine was $72 for the speed and 85 for court costs, $157 total and I paid it via mail.
I'm hoping to keep my run of 0 tickets going after the Mini arrives. I've been able to stay ticket-free for quite some time, and I don't plan to start racking up the bill in the Mini.
*Fingers crossed*

No tickets yet at almost 4000k but I am getting increasingly nervous.... not that I speed too often (I seldom intend to) but that I have not perfected my sense of speed for this car yet. I find myself routinely going 15 mph faster than I think I am traveling - I guess that's the price of migrating from an SUV and sitting 3 feet lower to the road....
One of my necessary purchases with Maggie was my first radar detector - a sweet Valentine One with remote display that is PERFECTLY situated down on the cig lighter adapter between the gauges. I will probably only use it for open highway travel and just be careful on the byways....

My one and only was after about 6 months of ownership. 67 in a 50. The way the cop acted, you would have thought that was the worst speeding he had ever seen. I rolled down my window and he yelled "67 in a 50, sir?" I just kind of shrugged and said, "Yeah, I guess." It was a long, straight stretch of back road in the middle of the day during the week. Oh, and it was my birthday! Happy Birthday, here's an $87 ticket.

Wow... the dollar value in the ticket was higher than the number of miles on the car!
Ironic huh?
Of course I had to mutter something about not realizing how fast I was going
and the State trooper Replied "well the speedometer is big enough"

I know it's OT on the mileage issue (around 28k), but may beat the "5 mph over the limit" tix for lameness.
Dominics- Twincharging. eh? Should've been able to find a twisty road and just disappear
