hi all, my 02 cooper manual tranny does something funny. when in 3rd gear, if i push forward on the lever and step on the gas it will vibrate, and only in 3rd gear does it do this. the technician today told me its normal is this true??

 

Probably, I don't think it's good for the transmission to put pressure on the shifter except when shifing gears.

If that's the only time you notice it vibrating I'd say don't push the lever in 3rd gear.

 

Are you talking about pushing on the gearshift without having the clutch in? Why would you do that in the first place?

 

no no, i mean i'm already in 3rd gear, and sometime i rest my hand there and it pushes the lever forward a bit and then it will vibrate, but only happens in 3rd gear and not in any other gears...i guess i'll just have to not push on it then. thanks guys

 

how hard are you pushing down with the **** already in gear?

 

just a light tab forward, i'm not like pushing with all my might

 

Not a good idea to rest your hand on the shifter. If the car is fine in 3rd without you gently pushing/resting, stop it!

I just had a new tranny put in my cooper s, and mine does this in 1 st gear only, and its not all the time, I asked the mechanic about it, he said there is no need to worry so i havent!

 

I heard they change the tranny on the 05's and 06's? Is that true?
