Security and guage pricing

My dealer has quoted me $550 for installation of boast and oil temperature guages, and $802 for an alarm system. When I questioned him on the pricing he said that this was standard Mini pricing. Is this correct? Or do individual dealers charge whatever they want? And if so, what would be a reasonable figure? The car is a 06S.
Any help is appreciated.

Do the gauges yourself, shouldn't be too hard. And I would get a ring mount and Autometer gauges to save money. It's MUCH cheaper. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=58578 As for the alarm, I have no idea, but I do know dealers charge WAY TO MUCH for labor....

Do you have a convertible? If so, it will take the dealer several hours to install the alarm. If not, it takes less then an hour and they are ripping you off! Sadly, some dealers are charging flat rates for accessories. If they just charged their regular labor rates plus parts, it would be a fare price. This is usually $500 at other dealers. If you have other MINI dealers in the area, ask them how much. You don't have to have dealer options installed by the same dealership you purchased the MINI from!

If you're interested in the OEM guages, I'd be happy to sell you mine for half of what the dealer is charging for the part(s). Just let me know.

Yeah, pretty standard they take the time the factory install guide says it SHOULD take and just double that Since the instructions say 3-4 hours they quoted you 8 hours of labor and most dealers labor rate are about $100/hr so yeah....$800 is about what all the dealers charge

you can get the factory install instructions on motoring file

Don't quote me, but I believe there are multiple sensors in the doors and interior panels. This is why they cost more for both parts and installation of the alarm.

planeguy,
Those directions and labor quote are for the early models where the cars weren't pre-wired for the alarm. For the hard top, the dealer should be able to install the alarm and program the computer in less then one hour. If you search through some older threads on the alarm, there are plenty of people that had it done for around $500. I even personally know someone that had it done at that price at the local dealer here.
