Tweels -- first pix

The following is a copy of an email from a friend at Mitsubishi. The images are at attached. The importance of the tweels development to MINI owners is obvious.

Just in case you haven't seen these tires mounted on a vehicle, here is an Audi.
I myself would like to try these.
These have been reported on for the last couple of years, but these are the first photos I've seen with the Tweels on a vehicle.
The words below came with this information. I don't know who wrote it.

Radical new tire design by Michelin. The next generation of tires.
They had a pair at the Philadelphia car show.

These tires are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon .

The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these tires.

This is what great R&D will do, and just think of the impact on existing
technology:
a... no more air valves
a... no more air compressors at gas stations a... no more repair kits

These are actual pictures taken in the South Carolina plant of Michelin. It will be awhile before they are available to the automotive industry.

Well, they are ugly but if the performance is there I am all for them.

WOW, Way COOL, sign me up! whats the price? Any guess? If your Mini doesnt get looked at now, it will with a set of Tweels. But SNOW? If snow builds in your wheels, I bet snow would fill, pack, the Tweels. I'd do spring, summer and fall. WOW

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the sidewalls will be closed on the actual tweels so they will look like regular tires, not open like these demonstrators.
