PIAA 1156 (19227) Extreme Whites to replace stock reverse light?

Has anyone used this PIAA replacement on their reverse light on a 2004 MCS before? I found out the stock bulb for the reverse light is a 21W, but PIAA doesn't carry any extreme whites w/ that wattage.

any comments/help are appreciated.

PIAA extreme lights are BS. See http://danielsternlighting.com/tech/...uperwhite.html

You can't get more light out of 21 watts than 21 watts provides.

If you add a bulb drawing more watts, you "could" fry your wiring.

If you want more light backing up, here is one solution http://www.rallylights.com/hella/backup.asp

The kit works well, but it is only for 05/06 (the original poster has a 2004). If you do have an 05 or 06 without a rear fog, the kit is a good way to replace the rubber plug in the bumper with something both useful and better looking.

I wasn't planning on putting in a higher wattage bulb to increase the amount of visibility. I was hoping to at least get something like an extreme white bulb from PIAA or any other manufacturer. I thought maybe that would at least be better than the yellowish OEM bulb.

Again, I suggest you read here http://danielsternlighting.com/tech/...uperwhite.html

those kind of bulbs are a ripoff for the price and do not produce more light to increase visibility, as you seek. You cannot get more light without more wattage (as Mr. Stern points out).

I wish you well in finding a suitable alternative because if you do, I too would like to know, that is why I suggested the Hella alternatives

I installed the MyMini Reverse light kit last night. Man was that an easy job. Maybe 30 minutes tops. The directions were spot on and it definately looks better than the black cover. Definately recommended.

I had an e-mail exchange today with Daniel Stern about bulb upgrade options for MINI, and I asked him about the reverse bulb for '04 and earlier. He recommends and sells the following:
Type 796, $7.20/ea. 35w (stock = 27w at line voltage, the P21W designator
refers to 21w @ 12v; line voltage is 13.2, and as voltage increases,
wattage increases). Produces 62 candlepower (stock is 32 candlepower).
Working very successfully in many, many MINI reversing lamps.
