Double-checking of the bulb size

Hi guys,

I need some help here. I just bought the '04 clear tail lights (clear tailights, clear third lights, and clear fog lights) to be fitted on my '05.

I'm planning to change all of them (execpt the indicators) to LEDs from autolumination so I need to check the sizes of the bulbs so any help would be 100% appreciated.

Tail lights:
1157 for the top reversing '05/foglights '04.
1156 for the middle indicators. Or the normal silver coated bulb equivalent 7507 BAU15s.
1157 for the bottom running/braking lights.

Foglights '05/Reversing lights '04:
1157

From the research I've done, 1157 bulbs have the pins straight and the 1156 have the pins offsetted.

Could anyone confirm whether the bulb sizes are correct?

Many thanks!

im doing research on this right now and thats how i found your topic, and the only one i can confirm is that the rear fog ('05)/Reversing light ('04) is a 1156 cause a 1157 is a dual filament which wont work.

Go to motoringfile.com. Download the manuals for both the 04 and 05. Bulb sizes will be there

Extensive bulb list:
A run down by location and bulb is here:
Front Running Lights: #194
Front side turn indicators: #194
Wheel Arches: #194
License Plate: 39mm Festoon x2 bulbs
Step/Entry Lights(under doors) #194
Foot wells #194
Glove Box #194
Map Lights #194
Dome Light-Center Bulb 39mm Festoon
Dome Light-Side Bulbs #194
Boot Light #194
Tail lamp Assembly #1156
Front Turn Indicators #1156**

These are the basic bulbs. On the autoluminations website you can choose which style of Led you would like to replace at each type of bulbs given location. There are many choices. What is below is what I did, you may do it differently but I know these will work.

** These bulbs have an offset pin style unlike the standard 1156. The base is a BAU15s subtype that I have not been able to find an LED to fit. What people typically do to get rid of the fried egg appearance of the front bulbs is to replace them with silver coated bulbs that illuminate orange. These are available on autoluminations as well.

My bulb Fitments:

Front Running Lights: #194 LED “wide angle” style color: ultra white

Front side turn indicators: #194 Silver coated #194 halogen bulbs

Wheel Arches: #194 LED “wide angle” style color: ultra white

License Plate: 39mm Festoon LED color: blue

Step/Entry Lights (under doors) #194 5 LED “Matrix” style LED color: blue

Foot wells #194 5 LED “Matrix” style LED color: blue

Glove Box #194 5 LED “Matrix” style LED color: blue

Map Lights #194 5 LED “Matrix” style LED color: blue

Dome Light-Center Bulb 39mm Festoon Led color: blue

Dome Light-Side Bulbs #194 5 LED “Matrix” style LED color: blue

Boot Light #194 5 LED “Matrix” style LED color: blue

Tail lamp Assembly #1156 24 LED “Matrix” style

Front Turn Indicators #1156 silver coated #1156 orange illuminating

As far as the tails. I really only recommend running LEDs as your backup lights. Other than that there is no dual filament LED for the running/brake lights and LEDs tend to be about 50-75% as bright as incandescents. Making in interesting during the day if you have someone following you closely and you need to stop suddenly.

To make the '04 units fit an '05 wiring harness you will need to remove the bulb carrier. The bulbs are soldered in. Remove the yellow bulb in the top position by unsoldering it. Replace these with clear bulbs and you will be good to go. No need to spice any wires anywhere. You can also pick up a brake light kit to fit in the spot on your lower bumper for added brakelight safety from www.myminiparts.com. Or you can fit their reverse light kit there. that's what I did. Thanks to MiniRolls for developing this kit Check my galler for pictures, at night of the lights on.

Hope this helps.
