Hey Guys,

The sales guy at Tweeter has sent me some pictures of the install as of Today (3/6/03). It has been 1 1/2 days with another 2 days to go possibly! Also, I will be going with the 0.5 capacitor. If you are wondering all the CABLES in the car are MONSTER CABLE M-Series: XLN PRO, 4-guage Power Cables, and 12-16 guage speaker cables! Enjoy:

Please tell me what you think!

Looks good
How much power are you going to be running?
Are you sure you need a capacitor? A capacitor, at a minimum, will void the electrical part of your warrenty. At least that is my understanding anyway.

Looking good....now for some shots of the good stuff!

Oh, and a capacitor has as much effect on your warranty as does an amp or a different head unit. It's just an inline "battery" to ensure proper power delivery. Nothing special. And yes I'm sure he does need it. You should, on average, be using a 0.5f cap per 300watts of amp power. Otherwise peak hits may degrade.

Hey Guys,

You don't think the dealer is going to hassle me on warranty work. I hope not I made sure to not touch or cut anything that is factory i.e. oem adapters and wires. Everything going is is aftermarket with no alterations to the factory stuff. I hope they won't bother me with it. Till then thank you and hope to hear from you soon.

I was told the car comes stock with head unit and amplifier. It does not come stock with the .5 ferad cap for every 300 watts. I just thought I would give the basis for my understanding. If you can clear this up for me I would be appreciative.

Capacitors are rarely used for anything but subs. Since subs crave and use such large amounts of power, especially if you want that ground shaking "BOOM!", a cap is often used on them. As no subs come in the MINI, not even with the HK system, there's really no need for it.

All the same, here's a simple explanation of what it's doing:

In a way, a capacitor is a little like a battery. Although they work in completely different ways, capacitors and batteries both store electrical energy. A battery has two terminals. Inside the battery, chemical reactions produce electrons on one terminal and absorb electrons at the other terminal. A capacitor is a much simpler device, and it cannot produce new electrons -- it only stores them.

One way to visualize the action of a capacitor is to imagine it as a water tower hooked to a pipe. A water tower "stores" water pressure -- when the water system pumps produce more water than a town needs, the excess is stored in the water tower. Then, at times of high demand, the excess water flows out of the tower to keep the pressure up. A capacitor stores electrons in the same way, and can then release them later.

The difference between a capacitor and a battery is that a capacitor can dump its entire charge in a tiny fraction of a second, where a battery would take minutes to completely discharge itself. That's why the electronic flash on a camera uses a capacitor -- the battery charges up the flash's capacitor over several seconds, and then the capacitor dumps the full charge into the flash tube almost instantly.

AK430,

Looks like a good clean install. I bet the sound is nice and loud. I am getting the final components for my install early next week. I can hardly wait.

Peace Out
