Interesting New Features In V27 With 2006-2 Map Data DVD
Hi All,
Here are some more really cool new features in V27 when used in combination with the latest 2006-2 map data DVD from NavTeq:
1) Under the "Destination Input" screen (i.e. the screen where you enter in the address that you want the system to route you to), you can now select the "Country" search field and narrow your searches down to any state within the U.S. (or Canada).
Previously, all this setting did was narrow searches down between the U.S. and Canada. This makes searching a lot faster and much more refined since it will only search within your state of interest (you can still select the entire U.S. or Canada if you want/need to though).
2). You can now search on Postal Codes (i.e. ZIP codes) as well as the City name (I believe that this is only possible when using a state in the "Country" setting as mentioned in number 1 above, but I'm not 100% sure).
BMW/VDO is really starting to improve the factory nav system for the better. I'm super impressed!
Now all we need is a better POI search mechanism/interface and we'll be set.

EDIT: I've just noticed that this information is mentioned in the official BMW nav info advisory that HowardPM has pointed us to over here:

Good stuff!

Thanks all for the heads up, I might just have to go ahead and do it in spite of the lame remark re warranty coverage in the SIB:
"WARRANTY INFORMATION - Updating the vehicle at customer request is not covered under warranty."
What does that even mean? They don't even want to cover their own OEM stuff under warranty?

Parks and Cemeteries - Is that all?
As I drive with this new disk, I find that with rare exceptions, the only landmarks that come up on the map are parks and cemeteries and the occasional golf course. You can be driving past large airports, and the only thing called out on the map is a 2 block city park located next to it.
It's good to know the small stuff, but it's weird that it misses the large landmarks.

The way I read is: the update isn't free. Owner needs to pay for the update.

seems really bad wit hfixing issues on their maps. I've reported 4 issues so far and only 1 has been looked at and they said they can't duplicate it. (this is in the course of a year ( I have tracking #s for all the issues). Also my friend lives in a new development (well new as of 2 years ago) and its not even on the 2006 DVD.

Something else I noticed - When my MINI dealer updated my nav to V26, the MINI dealers listing disappeared (using the 2005-2 DVD). With I updated to V27 (still using the 2005-2 DVD), they were still missing.
But with 2006-2 and V27, they're back. Anyone else notice this?

Check out the Info on Location, then Vehicle Services. I think that's the menu path. I'll check tonight when I return home for the exact wording.
Prior to V26, I could never figure out how to get rid of the icons. So rather than have hundreds of restaurant icons showing, I always had the dealer listings on. A bonus was that it would show little MINI icons on the map...
With V27, the MINI icon is gone, but at least the listings are there
