Toast doesn't recognize the files to burn an image?

Ack! Strange, on a wintel box after renaming the file, WinISO and UltraISO both recognize it as a valid ISO 9660 file and Nero has no issues burning it.

WinISO shows for the "bmw v27.mdf" file:
Total 128448 sectors, sector size 2352 bytes
single data track
Standard ISO9660 CD-ROM file system

Sorry, wish I could offer you more help!

mdsbrain,

The problem is that they need a standard ISO file, and the .rar file contains files specific to Alcohol 120%.

I have burned the A120% image on your site to CD, then created an ISO image from it (this time using Roxio Easy CD Creator)... then burned a CD from the ISO image file, and tested the upgrade. It works.

Do you think you would be able to host the ISO file from your website? It would save a lot of people a lot of hassle. If so, please contact me on any of the IM services so that we can initiate a file transfer, then you can host it on your site, along with the .rar file.

The people that created the A120% image file probably used that method out of concern for defeating copy protection... but the software update CD doesn't need it, there is no copy protection. This isn't the map data!

Need Mac ISO file

I don't have Toast for Mac. Last time I downloaded the image for v26, I just opened it using Disk Utility & was able to burn it to a CD. But when I try to open the image with what I downloaded (after changing extension to .iso), it says "Failed to mount...not recognized."

If someone could upload an iso image, that would be much appreciated!

jpsmini,

I uploaded an ISO file to mdsbrain, he's hosting it on his site now. The info was released in an update to the V27 news story on MotoringFile:

http://motoringfile.com/2006/03/13/m...it-to-the-web/

Don't read MotoringFile? You should.

Here's a direct link to mdsbrain's ISO download. Just like the originally released file, the download is compressed .RAR file, from which you'll need to extract the ISO:

I download the link above, changed the extension to .iso, but disk utility (for Mac) still doesn't recognize the file. Can anyone help here?

Burn this file. Don't change the file extension

jpsmini,

You didn't correctly understand what I wrote above. The .RAR files are compressed files, just like .ZIP files or .SIT files. You cannot simply rename them and use them as .ISO files. You have to decompress the files that are contained in the .RAR file first. This means using a software program that knows how to do this.

Fortunately, it seems that mdsbrain has decided to host the actual uncompressed ISO file for you anyway... so that will save you the trouble!

I downloaded the image and built the CD. I see that the the languages files for many languages including German are included on this version. Does anyone know have to make it offer German as a language choice?

Also I see posts where the distances are refered to as yards and feet. They mean meters don't they?

Got it now...

I did de-compress the .rar file, but it still didn't work. Thanks for sending the iso file! I really appreciate it.

I no longer have the nag screen. When I open the car door, I get the MINI logo and after starting the car it goes straight to the sat image

Yea, the perspective view is cool, but pretty useless, IMHO (only seems to display hiway names). But the nag screen clearing is worth the price of admission! Anyone else notice any other new features I haven't seen yet?

Still can't get the iso file to mount!

OK, I download the .iso file attached above, but when I try to open it, I get the message that the file is not recognized! Can anyone help here? I'm not new to burning iso files, but this one just won't mount for me.

jpsmini,

I did made an image of that file by the Disk Utility, but the file is about 130mb. The only problem I have is I don't know where to upload it..

BTW.. it is a .cdr file not .iso

why mount it rather then just tell a burning app to just burn it?

Ooooh... zip code support, when combined with the new 2006-2 map disc... me likey... but it's somewhat vague as to whether that applies specifically to the MINI implementation of the Nav system. Hmmm...

(UPDATE: It DOES! Confirmed by TheOfficeMaven in this thread.)

I DON'T like this "NEW" item though, right at the end:

"WARRANTY INFORMATION - Updating the vehicle at customer request is not covered under warranty."

The fact they deliberately SPELL IT OUT will only make it harder for MINI owners out there to get help from their dealership for updates.

Yep! It sure does... It's working great in my MINI with the new 2006-2 map data DVD. See:

Good thing

most Mini dealers are cooler then BMW dealers and will help ya with your NAV software and probably don't care what that document says.

I see from browsing the CD that language support for a large number of languages is present on the upgrade CD but only the ones which are already installed are included in the upgrade.

Does anyone know how to change the installed languages without hacking or tricking the system?

Hi dbert4,

The languages that the system can use (i.e. the languages that are available in the "Settings" or "Set" menu) have to be coded into the system by the dealer. You can have up to three different languages (or locations) encoded into the system at a time.

Other than that, you have to hack the firmware and trick it into using a different voice by swaping/renaming the voice files for the ones that you want (e.g. swap the GB voices for the US voices, etc.).

I hope this helps some...

Yes "The Office Maven" is right, I found the reference at http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/X5...RE_10_2000.pdf

it says that one needs a DIS/MoDIC to recode, does anyone know where to obtain the software and cable to "do it yourself"? Would be cool.

Still looking for iso file...

Does anyone know where I can download the iso file for the Mac? The one above comes up with a "not recognized" error in Disk Utility. I'd *really* like to get this!

Thanks.

Can you download Toast and try it? I've been told Toast accepts the ISO. I'm not sure why the Disk Utility in the OS isn't accepting it.

If it still doesn't work for you please PM me and I will try to work out something for you
