Navigation & Audio Saw on X5world the V27 Nav update is available
Another success!
Hi All,
I just upgraded the NAV in my '06 MCS and everything worked exactly as mentioned. While the new Perspective view is cool, I might just need to continue using the other view more often as they show more street-level names as I'm driving whereas Perspective only shows major street names.
BTW, I never knew about the hidden Service menu, so this whole procedure was informative as well!

That's weird. I did the same upgrade, but I still retain USA, GB, and E voices.
BTW, we can meet in town if any help needed, since I had all copies from v.24 to v.27 on hand.

It depends upon how your MINI's nav system was coded at the factory/Distribution Center. The older (U.S.-based) MKIV MINI's (pre Nov 2005 builds I believe) had the USA/E/F voice options coded into them, while the newer ones (Nov 2005 builds and later I believe) have the USA/GB/E voice options coded into them.
Thus, if your MINI doesn't have the GB voice option under the "Settings" (or "Set") menu, then you will need to use a modified version of V27 that swaps the USA voices for the GB ones in order to get the Brittish voice guidance from your nav system.
See GBMINI's Blog here for some more info:

After a day with V27, I've concluded that perspective view isn't useful without being able to see street names. It is nice to look at while driving around, but I have to switch back to 2D mode if I want to check my location or destination. I'd be interested to learn about what else was updated in V27. BMW would not have put out a new release only to add a hidden perspective mode.

All done! Followed the instructions and it worked like a charm. Not sure I'll use the perspective in a strange area since there's very little in terms of street names, but it certainly "gives good demo"!
Thanks all.

Thanks all.

Error message
I've downloaded the file (X5world and MDSBRAIN.com) now a few times: everytime I receive this message;
Fileheader 1 broken, continue?
What do I do wrong?
Nevermind: problem solved: I've downloaded a new winrar version....

interesting over on mini2 someone mentions that new cars are shipping with the sat nav.
I picked up my car last week and, having read this thread, went into the system and saw that it had perspective view on there. New cars must therefore have the updated software put on them in the factory.
Has anyone else noticed the difference in 2D mode like I did? The map changes are subtle, but they are there. Everything looks smoother and easier on the eye. The roads are less jagged, the pointer is shaded, and the route numbers are more 3D. It looks great!
Has anyone put on a custom splash page?
On X5 they give directions on what file to edit to change the splash page. Has anyone done this yet?
It would be Cool to have something other than the Mini wings.

i have not updated my nav software using any method, mostly because i don't have my mini yet so i make absolutely no claims as to if anything below will work. it's simply information on ways you can create an ISO image in OS X and unRAR files. i personally would be very wary of doing it and i've been making ISO/HFS hybrid discs for 10 years, but all those times the worst thing to happen would be the disc got toasted not a $1700 computer got fried. so with no further warning:
ISO 9660 is a disc image (like .dmg or .cdr in OSX) you can create ISO images in the disc utility program in your utilities folder. this article touches briefly on it.
http://www.samspublishing.com/articl...&seqNum=8&rl=1
there are also several applications out there that can create ISO images

http://roxio.com/en/products/toast/index.jhtml
as for unrarring files i use this http://unrarx.sourceforge.net/
once again i have not done this to update the nav software and considering that other people have fried their system i would be very, very careful. in fact i wouldn't do it until i'd had proof that someone else was successful. do it at your own risk, like i said i wouldn't do it.
jpsmini- rename the "bmw v27.mdf" file to "bmw_v27.iso". I'm not using a mac, but this file is in Alcohol 120 format. Simply renaming the file allowed my typical CD writer application to recognize it as a valid ISO 9660 and burn it successfully.
Same disclaimers that Dashiel makes apply here. Also, like others have mentioned, use a good quality CDR (silver or gold on recording side) and burn at a slower speed.
PCNorton, see my other thread on the Nav boot screen graphic. I'm not hearing from anyone about it yet, so I'll be trying it soon and will update how it went.
FWIW, I picked up my Mini two weeks ago and it had v26 installed.
Cheers!
