Suspension Strut Brace, which one?
I think BMP/PROMINI also sells a modified factory airbox cover to work with their stress bar. I have to say, I really like the eccentric adjuster/preloader on the BMP/PROMINI design. That combined with welded aluminum construction makes it, in my opinion, a lot of hardware for the money.
Then again, you could probably weld a piece of angle iron between the two strut towers and achieve the same effect.
Good luck deciding!

The BMP is the best one out there in my opinion. You do need to use the lower profile air filter however. This isn't such a bad deal though, as the fit and finish of the unit is superb, and you do gain some power as well.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Randy, will you please be sure to comment on the strut bar that (optionally) comes with the camber plates that are in development when you get your evaluation set?
Thanks,
Dave

To clarify a few things - We (Rspeed) are selling 2 different ones as we are an authorized BMPd dealer and Moss Mini Dealer - also, you do not need to use a lower profiled air box top - it is the ECU cover that needs to be modified - which is provided for free with the BMPd Strut Bar. You can see it in Bruce's picture above.
If I had an S, I'd have the BMPd bar on it in a heart beat - excellent quality - comes in 3 flavors and is such a "beefy" looking support for your Cooper. Makes a noticable difference in high speed cornering and makes the Cooper even more rigid.
Go with the BMPd bar - it is well worth your inventment.

Dave,
I will comment on the entire setup after the evaluation. Here are the teaser photos that I'm sure you've already seen:

TwOMINIs,
The Madness heat shield can be notched to work with the BMP, it just takes a little fabrication. Outline where it will be after taking some measurements, then cut the shield with some tin snips, use some weather stripping available at any NAPA, and mount the stress bar.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Peter, can you further clarify? This is a quote direct from the PROMINI (BMP) description of their stressbar: "Installation requires the low-profile filter cover, or the ProMini racing air filter kit." Can I use the BMP bar with the stock airbox?
Here's a link to the PROMINI page if you need to take a look:PROMINI/BMP Parts Page

Every BMP stress bar I've installed (with my own hands
) has been in conjunction with the filter. I don't think the stock box would work with the bar.
Peter is right - the ECU cover is modified also, and it comes with the stress bar. I really think you need the BMP filter, or at least a notch in any other filter system, to make it work. I don't think the stock box gives you enough room.
I'll look the next time one of the customers with the stress bar stops by.

Randy I checked and you CANNOT use the BMP with the stock box. I was cleaning mine today and put the old box on to check. It hits the top and cannot connect to the other strut bracket. So if you want a BMP strut brace it looks like you need the BMP intake to go with it. Not a bad choice and they look good together.
I just received the BMP bar today. Thanks Peter! Just a quick question or two (there were no instructions). The red anodized bit, does it matter which way it faces? I’ve seen it both ways in some of the pics posted, although the official BMP photo shows it towards the firewall. Does it have to be torqued to a a specific spec or just screw it down nice and tight.

What is the poop on that bar with the adjustable camber plates? Can you give us a hint as to what it will cost and what is the camber adjustment range? When will it be ready.

I am manufacturing the plates and bar. so far, there are 5 sets out there on cars and a few sets on order. Retail is $650 for the plates; add $150 for the bar. To install them, you need to remove the coilover and replace the stock rotating bearing assembly with the piece in the kit. The bar requires that you have clearance in the intake and ecu cover. The ECU cover is a $10 plastic part that snaps on and can easily be modded with a notch.

I realize that Randy (aka the resident guru
) is out of town so an answer may be slow in coming but what is the story with the H Speed bar. Is it a rebadge of one of the existing bars or is it a new product with better/ differenct fitment options?

I am still working on these camber plates with jlm - in fact I need to talk with him tomorrow on an issue relating to this.
That issue still prevents me from selling them just yet, but jlm is selling them like gang busters.
Once I know they are ready, I'll be selling them, and the cost has apparently gone up form the last time I talked with John - I'll let you know tomorrow.
