My 2004 Mini's Harmon Kardon CD player quit working. The dealer put in a new radio. It has some features I am ignorant about. When I turn the radio on the display show: REG OFF anyone know what this is?

Also, when I put the radio band on AM, I have a choice between MW and LW. I'm guessing (M)edium and (L)ong (W)ave. Is this right?

Also, it has a feature RDS that seems to control station ID. Ex shows WKIZ when on and 98.1 when off. Is this the full potential of the setting?

Also, it has and switch for INF that toggels between TRAFFIC ON and TRAFFIC OFF. I've tried this at different times but it does nothing to remove the idiots in the cars around me. What is this for?

i know the RDS depends on whether or not the radio station is broadcasting the RDS data. so with the stations that are broadcasting complete RDS data you will also see the name of the song and the name of the artist. the data sent varies by station. hope this helps a little. - glassdarkly

 

Where are you located. It sounds as though you got a H/U setup for the UK/Europe.

They have Traffic Info, and MW/LW for AM.

It sounds like the hidden menu selections have been activated. I'll dig around and post a link to the thread where it tells you how to access it. You'll need to get into the menu and select the correct 'region' for USA and you'll be fine.

 

Try this link for learning to access the menu and changing the settings.

 

If you don't want the reg off to display when you turn the radio on;
with the radio on press and hold the rds button until "reg on" is displayed, that should do it.

 

You have the European version of the HK, unfortunately most of those features don't work in "Amiland". All of that,"preventing needless government interference" in your life prevents the colaboration nessesary to have such services at nationwide traffic.

 

You mena H/U (Head Unit), the same H/U is used with or without the HK upgrade.
