In Production Question

This is my first post. I have been a lurker on this forum for about 1 month now. I finally put in my order last weekend and received a production number for a slot. The MA told me that it could be built as early as this week. So I called ASKMINI today and it says " Your car is in production with a scheduled completion of Feb 24." How come it takes that long to build? I was under the impression that once the status goes to "In Production" it would be built in a week or less. Input would be great thanks!

Hi! and Welcome to NAM!

My car took about 8 days or maybe 9 to work through the production line, with maybe 2-3 days of that being paintshop time. There are some great videos of the production process at mini.com to keep you entertained. You can pretend you are watching your car being built

Hope that helps!

Anyways....I am production week 8 so it sounds like our cars will be built around the same time which is Feb 20 - 24 with the cars expecting to ship by the 27th. I called today and thats what I heard. Car should be stateside by late March...hopefully!

I noticed that you are from the Bay Area. Can I ask where you bought your car from. My order is currently with Mini of Concord. They have a 2999 markup on the MCSC. I was really hoping I could get them to cut it by half and I will be happy. Did you pay a mark up too? Or did you get it at East Bay or out of state.

I bought my car at East Bay, no markup but had about a 6 month wait from deposit to delivery. I got lucky and got bumped because people were jumping ship on the 05 models and getting in line for an 06 instead.

It was easy to be patient sort of. I was still paying off my previous vehicle and the wife has a Cooper Cabrio (another East Bay purchase). So I was at least to keep the obsession under control somewhat.

Once you get your MINI you should come join Norcal MINIs (www.norcalminis.com) we have a monthly run and stuff. Friendly bunch of folks.

Wow You placed an order a week ago and your car is expected to be completed in about 3 weeks? That's is amazing.

I put in my order on 1/26 and received a production order on 1/30. I've been checking MiniUSA online everyday for my status since then, and everytime it tells me it is "on order". Does anyone know if this is normal?

How long did some of you actually have to wait going from "on order" to "knowing a production date"?

I *think* the dealerships can submit orders up to some amount of time in advance of the scheduled build date based on their allotments. I was on order for a couple weeks if I remember right before I shifted into being in production status.

You probably won't change from "on order" to knowing a production date until a couple of days before production. Your MA should be able to tell you a production week. Or you can call 866ASKMINI and talk to a live person who will be able to give the info. But I agree 3 weeks from order to production is great. Must be a dealer that doesn't have a lot of orders or they had one in the pipeline that was getting ready for production and that was what the poster was looking for.

cancel and ordre out of state. that is what I did. I am going to pick my Betty up, however they offered to ship her for $700. much easier and cheaper. no markup at all and all done in 7 weeks

Why don't you either order from Mini of Long Beach, Mini of South Bay or Crevir Mini in Santa Ana, where anyone of these dealers would sell at MSRP. Then hop on a Southwest flight for $79 one-way and come pick up you MCS here in southern Cal.
