I have only seen 2 on ebay - one went for $100 and the other for $145...one of which I bought cause I just HAD TO HAVE IT for my collection.

Hi MINITOR!!
Welcome!!
The Magic Motoring Ball is described in some detail and a photo is shown under this forum, the Post Your Finds Here thread, check page 10. It's a take off of the magic 8 ball of the 70's. It was a very early marketing toy and thus not many are out there. It's a fun item!!!

True his word trplezero has posted his Magical Motoring Ball on eBay. Since he's too shy, I'll post the link. I'm watching this one, trplezero!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1

He's got a reserve (mum's the word) and high hopes for an outrageous offer.

That looks awesome!!! I would love to have it - no way I'd pay that much for it, though.

Should We Start Collecting VW Ads?

In my March 6, 2006 issue of Autoweek, I see what looks exactly like a Mini Cooper ad but is a Volkswagen ad! This one is formatted exactly like the MC ads of yore! It's a definition of a "brokeometer" and has the same endearing copy as our favs. It has a punch-out, peel-off broken speedometer to quickly put over your own if you get caught speeding (they call it "by a naysayer")

Has anyone seen other VW clone ads?

I'm not about to buy a VW just to collect their ads. I test drove one several years ago and the automatic (which I need due to a week right shoulder) had horrible gear shifting patterns! Hope they've improved this;maybe someone knows.

At any rate, I saw an ad for 2006 or 2007 Mini in Feb. 9, 2006 issue of Rolling Stone. It was a photo of a guy with his pants coming down (no package views, sorry gals!) as he was holding onto something. Did someone post about this ad?

Hope someone posts on the outcome of the Magic 8Ball sale.

Peace,

Susan

(Sorry I tagged this onto another post instead of starting a new thread; I simply do not know how to start a new thread.)

I saw the same thing, and thought the same thing. Hmm, that looks JUST like a MINI ad.

P.S. New Thread buttons are at the top and bottom of any 'root' forum

It appears that the Magical Ball went for $137! That should make Donna feel better!!!

Interesting comment about the VW ads... I'm beginning to think that MINIUSA has decieded that since their MINI's are selling just fine without any advertising then they have decieded to forgo any future ads...

Hmmmm...your ad says, "Item has never been used or abused", yet one of your pictures clearly shows the ball saying, "sources say co left". It looks to me like your ball has been used and you're just trying to pull a fast one. I'm looking for a ball that has never even been turned over.

Curious, though, how do they fit all those sayings in there?

Paul

I hope you're kidding.

By used, I mean taken on the road as a Motoring assistant (in accordance with MINI's suggested purpose.) =) Although, philosophically, I guess having turned it over does make it used. Technically speaking.

I would have to guess that the ball contains a icosahedron (20-sided die). Probably not unlike the one you use when you play Scattergories.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to it. I wasn't really expecting to win it, I was just bidding it up to help out the seller

I have that issue (I sadly subscribe to several magazines in hopes of catching MINI ads...) the thing he's holding onto is "The 2006 MINI Grab Handle. Double bolted for a reason."

It's a huge double page ad. I'll be hard pressed to find a book in which to save this...

There's a gentleman on eBay who has a large stash of these and is selling them one by one. He sold one for $250!!!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...1558249&rd=1,1

Anyway...here's the latest one he's got up for grabs...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mini-...em150118133453

I don't know how many more he's got but I think he sold about 6 so far - typically for around $80-$90
