What is the back part of a headunit called?

Hello everyone

I have finally decided to go with alpine. I am getting an alpine HU from my friend . It is a CDA-9851. He is only selling the HU and not the back part. What is that back part called and where can i get one for Alpine?

Head units are just one single part, and in a lot of cases have a detachable faceplate... If he's selling you the faceplate (maybe 3/4" thick) and not the entire body of the head unit, and telling you that he's selling you the head unit, he's not your friend.

Hello everyone

Elbum, yes he is selling me the face plate ( sorry i thought HU is a face plate ). That is why i am looking for the part on which the face plate sticks. In the above picture, im talking about the white part. The black part is the face plate.

Eric_Rowland... *** end? .
Squirlz, i tried tail unit but its not it. Ok. Is it possible to get the end part seperate AT ALL? I have been googling it for like the past hour and nothing is turning up.

I would call the part you're looking for the HU, or possibly 'stereo body'. As has been said, the faceplace is just that, the faceplate.

I must not be the only one who finds the scenario to be a bit bizarre.

If the friend sells the faceplate, doesn't he end up with an unusable stereo? I thought the idea of a detachable faceplate is that you can walk away with an easily portable piece and render the stereo inoperable (therefore unattractive for theft). And the idea of buying a faceplate and hoping to buy the matching electronic main unit separately... most stereos are sold at a discount, and it is quite possible that purchasing a "replacement" for just the main unit would cost as much as an entire system. It would be just blind luck to come across someone who had lost their faceplate (that exactly matches yours) and was trying to sell the rest of their stereo.

I agree - why does the friend only have the faceplate?

By any chance does he like to "visit" other peoples' cars...in the middle of the night...when they're not around?

Hello All

I have decided to turn down his offer. It turns out that the one he was selling me had some scratches on the display and he was getting another face plate (same model) so he wanted to sell his. And no scooterboy, he does not like to visit other people's car in the middle of the night.... when they are not around . Im now looking for a cda-9855. A friend of my friend from Glasgow is selling one. It is used and is for about £150. Can any of you tell me if there will be problems using the GlideTouch? Does it wear out easily or something like that

I saw reviews of the GlideTouch when it first came out. It may be improved now but there were complaints that it is awkward to use and unresponsive when the interior of the car is hot (or maybe it was cold).
