Its broke! Is it my fault? Please help!

Hi, Newbie here!

Just 4 months with my new 05 Dark Silver MCS and I'm obsessed. My wife says my obsession it’s not healthy, but shares it.

Here's the problem. I’ve never been happy with lack of volume of the HK, but don't want to replace the whole thing. So I installed a 700 watt amp with a pair of 6x9’s pioneers in the back (took the signal for the amp from the rear speakers). It kinda did the trick for a while but this Tuesday out of the blue the radio just shut down . It seemed like a blown fuse, but no luck.
Here's where I'm lost: this Friday (again out of the blue) the radio turned back on by itself, just to shut down again this morning (now I feel like he's playing with me).

Am I overloading the HK? Did I wired it wrong? Is this common for the HK? It worked fine for about a month. Please help.

Do a search for the H/K system. I don't think you can just change components with the H/K, I think it's all or nothing.

A speaker-level to RCA adapter would likely reduce the load seen by the head unit. Many amps say you can use speaker-level inputs directly, but this may appear to be an open or short depending on the amp. Try simply disconnecting the amp first.

Now that you mention it, when the radio "fixed itself" the amp was disconected. I'm disconecting it right now. Hope it works.

If that's the case, is there another way to get a signal for the amp without confusing the H/K? I tried lookig for some diagrams but they were too confusing for me.

The mentioned speaker-level to RCA adapter should be available at any stereo shop, and come with the right diagrams. Did you replace the factory 6x9s with the Pioneers, or did you add those also?

Lack of volume? With all due respect to folks that complain about the apparent "Lack of volume" of the H/K system, I think you need to see the doctor and check your hearing. You'll be surprised how many people (Specially in our generation) are quickly becoming clinically deaf due to the noisy environments in which we live in. When your hearing is deteriorating, the natural response is to increase the volume of the TV or stereo, because our ears can no longer process sounds at normal, healthy decibels.

Never had a problem with the volume of my H/K.

For H/K technical questions, member GBMINI (Ian Cull) is the person to talk to in this forum.

They were just added. Did the setup myself. Took the signal directly from the rear 6x9's, put them through a High/Low Impedance Adapter and to the amp.

It does the trick, problem is that for some reason is messing up the H/K. Maybe I took the signal from the wrong place. I'm completely confused .
