iPod hookup in a 2002

I have no aux input and apparently its not doable in a 2002.
I am using a Belkin transmitter now but its a pain as unless you have the volume high it wont sense the signal. Then when it comes through its distorted so you have to lower the volume on the Ipod.

There must be a better way. :impatient Any great ideas ?

Thanks, Steve

If your Mini was pre-wired for a CD Changer you can create an Aux port by connecting a CD Changer interface kit like the one in this link.

I have the Harmon Kardon Drive + Play for Ipod connected via this method and it works great. This kit comes with a 10' cable that will reach from the trunk to the front of the car. The end of the cable should fit into the ear-phone plug on your Ipod or with a few other parts from your local radio shack you can extend the cable to mount in your glove box. You might also want to check the Nav /Audio threads on this forum. There are a lot of other post about this same subject and many other options.

Only integrated solution is to replace the head unit with a Aux ready MINI head unit. These come up on ebay and in the Marketplace relatively often. I just did this for a friend with an early '02 (April). IIRC, they became Aux ready in Sept.

Darn it, mine is August/02. Is there a way to check on the unit itself ?
I am wishfully thinking that if the change took place during the month of Aug, mine may have squeaked in.
Were there any outward differences, markings etc between the unit you took out and the newer one you put in ?

thanks, Steve

If you have a 2004 - you should be able to buy and install either the ipod input or regular aux input from the MINI/BMW dealer. I have the old aux input that Mini had before the ipod input was available.

Or you could buy a similar product from blitzsafe, USAspec, Peripherals, denison, neo-ion, etc.

I installed the Honda version of the USAspec adapter in my S2000 and I am very, very happy with it! You can control it with the stereo/stering wheel controls AND the ipod too. As soon as they come out with a version that will work for our Lexus we will get another one too.
