Whalen Handbrake Handle?

Any news on the Whalen handbreak handle?? Doug has said that he may be considering making one! Maybe if we can show enough interest we can make it a reality. How many of you are interested?

To quote Bill & Ted - A Whalen "E-Brake Machine" would be MOST excellent. Totally.

Count me in, dude... uh I mean, Doug.

I'm patiently waiting to hear more about Mr. Whalen's "After Christmas Sale" on his shift *****, too... :impatient
.

Still on my "to do" list.

It seems like I just can't find the time, no matter what I do.
Still hoping, though...

As for an "after Christmas" sale, I'm not sure about that either.
I just returned from a week-long "working vacation", and the shift **** supply is drastically low. Got lots of orders, and almost no stock!

Is the stock handbrake handle as easy to remove as the stock shift ****?

With the release button in the middle, I'm not so sure it'd be as easy as the shift ****. Any thoughts?

Its easy, ideally you would keep the stock button, and simply replace the rest of the stuff around it. I would love to get a nice heavy ebrake...

Speaking of which I'm off motoing again. FUN ROADS HERE I COME.

HAHA, this car is too bloody fun!

If you were to create an e-brake machine, it would be really nice if it had the capability of temporarily disabling the "top catch" so that it could be used to induce rotation on the autocross course and then snap back into place.

That's a really common drift mod.....

if you go looking amongst the japanese drift community, you'll surely find one..

Here's Rspeed's ... or what Rspeed sold back in 2003, still listed on their site as;

http://www.rspeed.net/mini/item.asp?dept=12&cat=7∏=M20-545

Chrome on the ends, satin in the middle, solid metal. Is it a Whalen? No, but it's as close as I could come to a match. Close to the heft, close to the 'feel'.

Just an option, not suggesting it's really what the original post was after.

I really love chrome, but for some reason that looks like a sex toy too me . I wish there were more options out there.

This is what is known as a "fly-off" brake. Both my classic Minis are so equipped with a product from Paddy Hopkirk. To use it in the fly-off mode, you just yank it up -- to release you just let go. If you want to use it as a normal parking brake, you pull it up and then push in on the button so it catches on the ratchet mechanism. You have to replace the ratchet pawl with one of different geometry.

Agreed on the look in the pictures. Alas, pictures don't do the hand brake justice, it's not so clearly phallic in person. I guess because in the photo the shape is featured vs. in person. Go figure, a photo misrepresents the overimportance of shape.

Maybe if I slipped a trojan ... wait, did I just cross the line? ban me if you must.

So that's what it's called. It must be a Brit car tradition. My office owns an MG TD. It has a "fly-off" e-brake. It's fun to watch drivers who are new to the MG trying to figure it out. Everybody thinks it's broken!
