Hey all, how does this one sound?

Still considering a MINI among some other cars..

Found this one on Craigslist:

http://www.craigslist.org/sfc/car/117494800.html

I don't mind that it has 40k miles as long as they have all service records and the car checks out at a shop. Seems like a pretty good deal, and BRG is a sweet little color.

How much would it cost to have the roof/stripes painted black?

Thanks!

Price seems pretty good...I would ask how the clutch is since 40k clutch wear on a vehicle in San Francisco could be something to keep in mind. Even with that, though, nice color. Give 'er a test drive!

Must be a big dog to not fit in a Mini!

Heh, yup..

I e-mailed them and asked about the clutch/brake/tire wear..

The price does seem pretty good.. almost $2,000 below KBB in "good" condition.

Its kinda hard from their description to know all options on it. Aside from that it sounds like you'll have a shop familiar with Minis check it over for out of warranty issues (and accidents) and with hope all is Hard to figure fair price before you have all that info and whether is needs maint. inspection and/or tires, etc. Best of luck

PS: A good paint job is never cheap - best way to get an idea of a repaint of roof is to get an estimate from a few reputable shops. You can always put vinyl on the roof to change the color/put on a pattern. The stripes can just be removed as they are vinyl.

Yup, gonna have to run the car through the ringer to make sure it's 100% OK.

How much would vinyl be to purchase and install?

Can you reccomend a good shop in the Bay Area that knows Minis well?

Make sure it has the MFSW/cruise, I'd be hesitant to buy a Mini w/o it.

I think hood stripes are around $100 from cooperflags.com. Install shouldn't be too much if you shop around.

Have a Mini dealer to check it out, they are familiar with the car and are motivated to find anything that is wrong.Typical stuff like cooling fan collant tank can easily be missed if not familiar with car. Also 40k is a lot of miles for its age.

Bought mine used or "preowned" like I prefer to say..LOL
with about 37000 miles on it, car had all its service records. You should check to see if it still under warranty (or you could always purchase an extended warranty)

Go to a local vinyl shop, can probably get standard black pretty cheap. The roof is a fairly small area, shouldn't be that expensive. I know someone in Hmapton VA painted his own roof (orange!) but i wouldnt' suggest trying on your own if you've never done it before
You don't need no stinking cruise control! I drove to the dragon and back without it + 25,000 miles

There is Edge Motorworks in Dublin, and, I haven't used them, but people here seem to be very happy with Bay Bridge Motors in Oakland. As for having a dealer check over the car I'd consider East Bay and probably Concord and Mtn View. I'd call all of the shops and see what they would do in the inspection, what the guarantee in writing would be of their check over, what they would do if a problem came up with the car they didn't find, and what the timeline and price would be. I'd also check Alldata and see what service bulletins and recalls there are and make sure the shop checks all of those known issues; you can have a dealer run the VIN to see what work has been done through any Mini dealership. I think you can also check with the DMV on any reported accidents.

Hope that helps As for vinyl there are tons of places to buy that from, and I'll bet you could even handle the install yourself if you tried If you don't wanna try call Totol Eclipse in San Rafael, I'm sure they could help you - or even go to a sign shop like Fast Signs, they do cars and commercial vehicles all the time.

Just to give you another option, and by gain by me whatsoever( ), if you are not set on the MCS, I have a 2002 MC with the same mileage for sale that I would sell for a thousand less. Its silver with black top and black bonnet stripes. I'm in Seattle, but could meet you half way somewhere in Oregon. Well, I had to try.

Here's a link just in case: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=56573
