R50/53 Long wait for '06 MCS ?
Long wait for '06 MCS ?
I have been told by MINI North Scottsdale in Arizona that it will be a 7 month wait for a order on a 2006 MCS. Is this consistant all around the country? I have heard of much shorter wait times at some dealers. I know that some dealers have cars on their lots, but I want to order the car with my specific equipment. I can travel a reasonable distance, and drive the car back to Arizona.

Search on Classic Mini. They are out of Mentor OH and can get you a car much quicker and with little hassle. Talk to Julie. We got ours there and it was a great expereince.
I think they have $500 MSRP deals going on this month...

I've ordered two in the last 10 weeks. The first one took took five weeks, unfortunatly it was spec'd wrong.
When you order check your spec's, then do it again! The second car also took 5 weeks. I ordered from Midwestern MINI in Dublin Ohio. They have a lot of inventory on hand. Check them out. My MA was Chad Simkins, he was good to work with. You can buy out of state, fly in & have a great road trip home. Lots more fun than waiting 7 months.

All of these should be driveable home for you.

When I ordered my '04 it took approximately 2 weeks from the time I ordered to when it received it's VIN and was scheduled for production. It was deliverd approximately 8 weeks after I ordered.
I ordered an '06 last Friday afternoon from Classic MINI (Julie). I check every day just for yucks; last night when I checked it was still in "On Order" status. Today when I checked it was "Scheduled For Production" and the VIN had been assigned. When I ordered I was told that it probably wouldn't go into production until the first or second week in January. It looks now like it will be here a lot sooner than expected. I'm guessing around the end of January instead of end of February. It's almost too soon.

The exception to this is when dealers charge over MSRP. Less people are willing to pay extra, so there wait lists are much shorter.
The good news is people may drop off the list and/or the dealer my get a bigger allotment. I was originally quoted 12 months, but ended up getting mine in 9. I could have ordered from an east coast dealer and gotten a MCS sooner, but I had another car to pay off first. So it worked out perfectly.

Thanks everyone for your input. I had a 2003 MCS that I got from Mini North Scottsdale, that car took just over 2 months to get. I can't believe that the wait is so much longer now since the plant in Oxford has put on extra shifts, and expanded capacity.Maybe I don't understand how the dealer allocations are made. I know Mini North Scottsdale could sell alot more cars if they could get them. Some dealers in the Southeast, and Northeast have 30 to 40 cars in stock. Something is not right about that.
I'll join in and say that we also had a fantastic experience buying from Julie at Classic!
Even better than avoiding the waiting lists is the fact that we got to go on a full weekend trip and were able to break in the engine by the time we got the new Cooper home!

I am in Oregon and we have two dealers in the Northwest. I ordered mine the end of November this year and its about 6 months out before its delivered. Although I did hear that MINI is sending select dealers in the US additional cars with each shipment so the wait time for a car similar to what you ordered could be available in a shorter amount of time. My dealer in Portland got 12 extra MINI's on the last shipment. As far as I am concerned, I am willing to wait ! By the time mine comes in the weather should be great here!
That was the same time I placed my order at Rasmussen last year. They said 12 months for a MCS and I ended up picking mine up in early August (June build). Are you ordering a MC or MCS? Either they are getting a larger allotment these days or you were quoted the shorter wait time for MC (less demand for those).
The MINI definately makes the saying "Good things come to those who wait" true!

My good friend is driving back his MINI to phoenix as we speak after getting it from Julie and mine is on order through her right now as well. Not only is the wait ridiculous at MINI North Scottsdale but they have always rubbed me and my friends the wrong way.
Order from Classic!

I ordered my 06 CR/W MCS last friday from PatrickMINI in Chicago and my MA John got me a production number the next day and i was checking the owners lounge that very next wednesday and my car went from "order" to "scheduled for production"
all in a matter of less than 5 days, my MA told me it should be here by the last week of January. Maybe you should look around to some other states, im sure you could order one and get it in less than 7 weeks!!
I ordered a Pepper White MC with cold weather, premium & sport packages and was told it was about a 6 month wait...7 at the longest even if I wait for the actual car I ordered. They are getting more in each time from what I hear though. They have been great down there so far and I am very much looking forward to the rest to come. Looking forward to being a part of the group!
This is silly, it's a myth that there is a shortage of minis on the west coast. It depends on the dealer and how big an alotment they get.
Ordered my Mini over the phone (From Mexico -- on vacation and was moving from NY to LA) on Sept 14 and picked it up on Nov 1. It's 350 miles from where you are. Call Cravier in Santa Ana and ask for Christian, he was so, so, so great. Paid MSRP -- tell him you'll only pay MRSP. Got exactly what I wanted. They also have 15 Minis on the lot if you want one now. Then take a road trip home.
They are right by John Wayne airport and have shuttles. This is easy.
Cheers,
Beth

That's BS...
We placed an order for our '06 S convertible at the middle of Sept. this year and received it on the first of November. We're in Greenville SC so we're close to the BMW plant in Spartanburg SC and MINIs come through Charleston SC port whiched helped speed up delivery time but 7 months seems to be a plain lie.
