New OEM iPod adaptor?

Has anyone installed the new OEM iPod adaptor? If so what do you think? Does it display text on the headunit?

I didn't think it was supposed to be available until January. Has it been released yet?

Anyone heard anything further regarding the new IPOD adaptor? Any timeframe being thrown around? I am supposed to be getting my new MCS sometime in March and was hoping they would have it available by then.

I ordered the iPod OEM and it was installed by the dealer before I picked up the car on Dec. 14th. It will show you the track number on the display but nothing else. The iPod adapter takes the place of the CD changer and there are more options but it will not show you the name of the song or artist.

I have it in my '05 MCS with H/K stereo. I use it everyday with my new 4GB Black iPod Nano and the sound quality is stunning to say the least. I like the OEM adaptor because it afford a very clean and transparent setup. Unlike most people in this site, I much prefer o keep my iPod tucked away from view in the glove compartment. The adaptor allows you to change tracks and adjust volume using the steering wheel stereo controls. it works well and the sound quality is crystal clear and stunning to say the least.

My main caveat with the OEM solution is lack of id tag text support in the headunit and this could be annoying is you have failrly long playlists. My dealer has not been able to either deny or confirm about a new version capable of text support in the headunit.

If you can get past the lack of text support, the OEM iPod adaptor is a fantastic solution and appears to be more realible than the problem prone Dension ICELink Plus aftermarket adaptor.

Also the adaptor was installed by my dealer prior to delivery. When it comes to car's electrics/electronics, I let someone else with experience deal with them.

Ditto what C4 said. Some people complain that you can't see the track names, but my perspective is that I'm driving. I don't need to be reading my head unit. So I usually set the playlist, put it in random mode, and listen. If I come to a song I'm not interested in, I just press the arrow button on the steering wheel and I'm off to the next song. Of course, since I only put songs that I like on the playlists, I don't do a lot of arrowing.

I just don't see how the use of a limited number of predetermined playlist allows you to exploit all the features of the Ipod. We drive high tech cars - the dealer installed ipod adapter is extremely lowtech - we deserve better.

The New OEM iPod adapter does not show id3 tags. It is exactly the same as the old version except, that you can have the iPod adapter and the Navi. With the old one you could not have both.

This info is from a friend in London with a new '06 MINI.

I bought it, installed it myself using directions from motoringfile.com and love it other than the no text display. It is amazing quality and the unit itself if you look at it is actually made by apple, not MINI. Quality at its finest I think! Very easy install for a do it yourself person rather than pay $200 from a dealer which is what I was quoted.
