If you don't mind me asking how much were these? Does it come with all hardware to adhere to the tach? You just ordered it from the dealer?

Thanks,
JOhn

gauges

Hey John. I willl get them Tommorow. The cost on them is $325.00. I am not sure if it comes with hardware. I would think it does. Hopefully it just connects to a existing harness.

It looks real nice. Have you seen them.

Haven't seen them, but that is kinda steep for 2 guages. I think I'll just do an autometer boost gauge although I'm not sure how that would coincide with the warranty.

Is doing work like installing aftermarket guages a no no?

I believe I'd seen somewhere that the labor charge for dealer install was 1.5 hrs. I just picked up this kit myself (used from a NAM member on eBay) and believe he was sending the instructions with the kit. So, if you need them, let me know and I can scan it for you.

From Gomotoring.com

http://www.gomotoring.com/pdf/aux_ga...structions.pdf

Here's a pic of mine - I have the Promini gauge kit and had to figure out a lot of it myself as their instructions suck.

I have 15psi boost and oil pressure.

This appears to be the same as the set I got. I agree about the night light condition--not so good. Also the needles are more red than orange and don't have silver discs in the center. Unsure about the usefulness of the voltmeter--always at 14. The cowling looks good and integrates the gauges with the tachometer. My mechanic said it was suprisingly complicated to install.

Yes sir, the lighting is very disappointing ... And my particular boost gauge is dimmer then the voltmeter, as shown below. At least the backlight color matches...

The new steering column cover/gauge holder is actually one molded black plastic piece - as shown below. The flash used in these pics over-emphasizes the color difference in the surrounding grey dash plastic. It is really not that noticeable. The column cover looks like a Mickey Mouse Ears Hat before you install it.

Hope this helps visualize whatcha get. My kit was installed at delivery by the dealership. There are more pics in my gallery...

I wish they made a kit like this for those of us with both the speedo and tach on the steering column.

Well lemme tell you having a BOOSt and Oil Pressure gauge near my tach is great.

Click here for a video to see the boost (to the right) go nuts. I have a few other videos on there......Oil pressure bounces around a lot as well, much better than voltage.

Holy crap that boost gauge looks terrible. I would say there's something wrong man. You better get that checked out asap. They should replace the boost gauge.

I wish they did both the boost and OIL PRESSURE with the factory kit. I went with the Alta pod and Autometer Ultra Lites with oil pressure and boost/vacuum. They match the color of the OEM guages almost exactly. Illum is a lot better too. I will post pics when I get them installed.

I have a question for those of you who did this mod yourself - how the heck did you get the Tach reinstalled? Man, my hands aren't even big and getting those two darned screws back in has been a major pain in the rear.

Up to that point, everything was going very well.

The gauges aren't very bright, that's for sure. Do people know if there is anyway to make them brighter?

Get yourself a telescopic magnet. It's like $1.99 or something at your local auto parts store and is extremely handy for reinstalling screws in tricky places. Also very handy when you drop something in a very hard to reach spot (ask me how I know this).

To make the lighting better, you can get LED 194 bulbs. I ordered red autometer bulbs from summitracing.com when I ordered my voltmeter. The amber ones don't match the orange color of the stock lights at all. The new LED bulbs are WAY brighter than the ones that came with the Autometer gauges (and I'm going to guess the same as the stock Mini gauges as well).

You should be able to find them if you enter "LED 194" in the search field on the Summit Racing site. I'm assuming these would need to be wired into the harness that comes with the OEM kit, correct? The ones in the OEM kit are little circuit boards w/ the LED that plugs into the end of the wiring harness.

While I would like a brighter gauge, I am not ready to rework my installation after just finally completing it. While it was a great learning experience, I'm not sure I want to play in all of those nooks and crannies of the MINI any time soon again.

A quick search for "led" on their site reveals this:

or would ATM-3287 - Amber be a better match for the stock MINI lighting?
