SIRIUS Starmate Replay in my 04 MCS

Not much to this installation, as you'll see in the pics.

Suction cup windshield mount sits in the big ol' MINI Fini cupholder. I had to replace the lower adjustment **** with a plain nut to get it to fit. It works great, except that it doesn't stand up during spirited motoring. That's not a huge deal because I don't listen to the radio much at those times anyway. The three wires in the side of the unit are (top to bottom): antenna, AUX cable, power cable from cigarette lighter. I guess satelite radios consume too much power for rechargeable batteries (?).

Antenna sits at front of dash. The wire weaves through the dash vent to hold it in place, then drops down under the panel below the steering wheel, down behind the center stack, and out the bottom vent above the cigarette lighter. My AUX input is located next to the vent.

Overall, I'm really happy with the Starmate Replay, except that the display is too bright even when it's on the darkest setting. I wish it had a display like the iPod that would go dark when you weren't using it. Other than that, it is user friendly, the traffic "jump" button is great, the song/artist alert is great, everything is well built, and I am satisfied. Now if the DJs would just shut up!

Excellent choice on the starmate. I think it's the best player available.
The top of the dash removes very easily, you could do that and hide the wire completely, as I did for my nav system.

I hadn't thought of that. Are there dash-removal instructions online somewhere, or did you just figure it out for yourself?

I did it another way. Got a mount built to fit in cupholder.

Ebay has a bunch of these. They are adjustable and fit anywhere a coke can goes, like the MINIFINI. I'm also gonna put the antenna behind the stock antenna on the roof. Less dropoffs. Will get you a pic of the cupholder thingee. Really works tight. No problems cornering.

What did you search for on ebay to find the cupholder mount?

I get no dropoffs with the antenna on the dash unless I go under a bridge, and even then only when I'm in traffic and not moving as quickly as I would like. I'm glad because I really don't want to stick the antenna on the roof.

Well, I'm not sure if it changed for the 05s, but otherwise, open the doors, pull off the plastic panels on the sides of the dash, and there are two torx bolts on each side. Tilt your steering wheel to the lowest position, and then just pull the dash top up and towards you. It takes about 30 seconds.

It's easy to run the wire along the base of the windshield, around the side of the dash by the glovebox, under and behind the glovebox and then over to your Sirius. It should only take you about 5 - 10 minutes and the cable is completely hidden. You don't need to remove anything.

Where did you hide the leftover length of antenna cable? The way mine is now, the extra cable is taped to the inside of the plastic cover under the steering wheel.

Since the cable ran under the passenger seat footwell I coiled the extra cable behind the HU.

You could also just Velcro the starmate replay to the dash.

Aux dropping out!!!

I have the Sirius Starmate also and love it.

I do have one problem and wonder if anyone else has had it occur.
Every once in a while my head unit (HK) will all of a sudden quit recognizing the AUX input and the CD starts playing. When this happens I unplug the 1/8 stereo plug from the Sirius unit, push mode on the HU until AUX shows up again and plug it back in. For awhile this was a constant thing so I just went to FM modulation . However, I couldn't stand it so tried AUX again. It's been working for a week and only done this once.

BTW, this has never happened when I use my IPOD and the AUX input.

Later,
Ray

sounds like a loose wire.

Sounds like it could be a ground loop isolator issue. There have been a number of threads that discuss this.
