R50/53 Near Flame-Out . . . or not.
Near Flame-Out . . . or not.
So, I hop in the Mini for the afternoon school run and as I leave the neighborhood, I notice the fuel gauge in the red - very much in the red! Select "range" on the OBC and get just "--- --- ---".
As I turn toward the gas station that's about .5 miles away, I'm trying to remember if the wife said she filled up last night or if I just imagined it. Anyway, after only being able to pump about a gallon, fired up and the gauge showed full with a range of 302. Anyone else seen this quirk?

Yes, exact same thing happened to me. The fuel gauge would show red, actually it was in the lowest possible spot. Sometimes if I just turned the engine off and on it would correct itself, but later on nothing would help it. So off to the dealer I went, and surely enough it was a faulty sensor in the gas tank. Replaced under warranty.

Well...after not driving the MCS for a week, I started it up and the gas gauge is now working! Hope it stays this way. I really don't want to have to drive all the way to the dealer and have to leave the car...
I usually reset my trip odometer when I fill up. If I noticed that I had driven 300 miles and the gauge showed 1/2 full, I'd be suspicions. . .

The exact thing happened to me, see this post:https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ight=gas+gauge
It's a faulty sensor. Take it in and have it replaced under warranty.
